BRITISH SPEEDWAY SEPTEMBER 22
Date: Wednesday September 22, 2021
DATES and venues for British Speedway’s Premiership play-off semi-finals can now be confirmed.
In an ironic twist, both Peterborough and Wolverhampton both revealed at a planning meeting of the four clubs on Tuesday that they would select each other which enabled logistics to be put in place for the fixtures to be arranged.
Wolverhampton will host the first leg on Monday with the return at Alwalton seven days later.
Roses rivals Belle Vue and Sheffield will go head-to-head in a mouthwatering tie with the first leg at Owlerton next Thursday, September 30, and the return in Manchester the following Thursday, October 7.
Peterborough still have to face King’s Lynn at the East of England Arena on Thursday with a win handing them the league leaders position ahead of the play-offs.
Team boss Rob Lyon said: “If we finish top there is a case for each of the other three teams in the play-offs for us to justify selecting them.
“However, we have been looking at this long and hard over the last week or so and decided to pick Wolverhampton as semi-final opponents should it be our decision to do so.
“I know they have been a fabulous team this season but we felt that given all the options placed in front of us they would be our preferred choice of opponent.
“That said, we want to finish off the regular league season with a win against King’s Lynn and it’s the opportunity for our fans to come along and show their support for the boys ahead of Monday’s meeting at Wolverhampton.”
