The 2021-22 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series is all about redemption for the Triple M Kendrick Racing Team.
Driver Jason Kendrick and the entire team endured a challenging campaign last season that saw them finish outside of the top three after being the series champion for the three previous seasons.
That has seen a lot of research, development and testing in the off-season and with the first meeting of the new season getting underway this Saturday night, it is time to put all those learnings into practice.
When asking JK about the gains and losses from last season, he was brutally honest, saying there weren’t main gains.
“We didn’t have anywhere near the consistency that we needed,” Jason said.
“And Callum (the ultimate series champion Callum Williamson) made a lot of gains and was just better than us.”
Jason said they were hopeful the tweaks in the car and engine combination would make them more competitive and “obviously I need to do a better job”.
The recent practice sessions also saw the team upbeat.
“It is one thing to do it in a testing situation but when you race everything changes, so hopefully those gains will transition into racing,” Jason said.
His dad and team boss Geoff was also positive heading into the new season, saying they had upgraded a lot of their components and they were ready for the battle.
“Our objective is to go down to the Perth Motorplex and concentrate on improving where we fell short last year,” Geoff said.
“There were a lot of reasons why we didn’t do as well last year but there are no excuses, we need to do better this year.
“On another positive our local corporate partners have signed up again for another season and we will do our very best to representative them all this season and do them and our racefans proud.”
