EASTERN CREEK SPEEDWAY PRACTICE, DECEMBER 18, 20
Sydney’s new state of the art Eastern Creek Speedway, delivered by the NSW Government, is nearing completion and the venue is gearing up for a practice event on Saturday, December 18 and Monday, December 20.
The practice and facilities will be contained to the pit area and racetrack, which is safely segregated from the grandstand area where construction continues in the general admission and corporate areas prohibiting spectators from attending.
Venue co-promoter Kathy Kelly was thrilled to make the announcement today, hailing the progress at the venue as very exciting.
“We’ve been quiet on social and media updates purely because there’s been an enormous amount of work going on behind the scenes by everyone involved including Sydney Metro, the Western Sydney Parklands Trust and the contractors Abergeldie.”
Although the practice event will be restricted to competitors and crew only without spectators, it represents a massive step in the journey to launching the venue early next year for the Grand Final of the QLD/NSW Sprintcar States Series on January 14 and 15.
“We will be contacting clubs to advise how the practice format and nomination process will work, however it will be limited to 120 cars each night and driver plus four crew in light of it still being a construction site, with everyone attending required to show proof of full vaccination status,” Kathy further explained.
Temporary arrangements will be in place for necessary buildings and services, and all safety features will be established and approved.
“We understand it will be disappointing for spectators not to be able to attend the first runs on the new track, however the alternative was to stay closed until some-time later in the season – which would become increasingly difficult due to practice sessions being a necessity prior to an event , for competitors, volunteers, staff and management to test the facility thoroughly to give us the best chance for it to be running.”
