WATERLOGGED LISMORE SPEEDWAY CANCELS DECEMBER 4
When Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway promoter David Lander arrived at the Lismore Showground it didn’t take long, after seeing the saturated grounds, to cancel this coming Saturday night’s (December 4) fixture.
The Lismore Showground on Tuesday night/Wednesday copped a pounding with consistent heavy rain.
The surrounding areas were waterlogged. The racetrack and pit areas also were very seriously affected by the heavy, non-stop rain.
After doing a quick ground inspection mid-morning Wednesday – and with more heavy rain that day predicted – David was left with no alternative but to declare the December 4 race meeting off.
This was scheduled to be the annual kids’ Christmas party – one of the most popular meetings on the annual speedway season calendar.
“That’s a shame for what we had planned for the December 4 meeting, but there was no way I could run this meeting due to the wet weather,” David said.
“I wanted to call it early so that at least everyone knows where we’re at with our planning. We just hope this is not an indicator for the upcoming high time of the season when we have a lot of meetings planned.”
Attention now turns to Boxing Night, December 26, leading into a very busy two weeks in January.
The annual opening round of the Mr Modified series on December 26 will be the highlight of the meeting, while five days later on January 1 the Monster Truck/FMX Free style motocross will be featured, along with a massive fireworks display and full speedway programme.
Then on January 8 it’s the Mr Modified series final, followed by the massive fixture on January 12 with the return of the 410 V8 Sprintcars highlighted with the appearance of Californian star Carson Macedo. Three days later it’s the Super Sedans’ turn to take the spotlight featuring the Northern Rivers Classics supported with the SSA Junior Sedan Nationals and full support card.
