NSW driver Matt Smith took out the 2022 Australian Midget Championship at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway, Saturday night, January 29.
Smith now joins an exclusive club of Midget/Speedcars competitors who have taken out the prestigious double on the national scene – the Australian Speedcar Grand Prix and the national title.
Both title events, as separate identities for many decades, Smith now has his name beside the likes of the legendary Johnny Stewart, George Tatnell, Ron Mackay, Steve Graham and Nathan Smee as AGP and national title victors.
Smith has won the AGP on two occasions – 2019 (Lismore Speedway) and 2011 (Parramatta City Raceway).
At Archerfield last night, he drove a well judged, calculated race to take the coveted crown.
Former Australian Champion Kaidon Brown filled the runner-up spot while Victorian star Travis Mills was a deserving third.
The top ten were rounded out by Michael Kendall, Troy Ware, Brock Dean, Dylan Menz, Brendan Palmer, Lachy Paulger and Rob Stewart.
