THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF WINNING
Popular Victorian Warren Monson and passenger Andrew Summerhayes experienced the highs and lows of speedway sidecar action Saturday night, February 19, at Mildura’s Olympic Park Speedway.
The duo stormed to their third successive Victorian Sidecar Championship and Monson’s eighth title of his career. He was also presented with the Dudley Bradshaw Memorial Trophy that is normally given to the shootout meeting winner.
It was later discovered that Summerhayes broke his right foot in the last heat with Brodie Cohen.
Monson said: “His bike cut out and we hit him. Andrew fell off and Brodie ran over him.”
He is expected to be sidelined for four weeks.
“I won’t ride with anyone else – probably be able to ride in four weeks,” Warren added.
Andrew will spend time resting his foot and making sure it heals back to full strength.
The team also will spend time in the workshop preparing the bike in readiness for the upcoming Australian Championship at SA’s Gillman Speedway over Easter.
Special mention to Warren Monson for equalling the record of eight title wins held by Andrew Cleave and Dave Power.
