POOLE’S MAXIMUM POWER
POOLE duo Steve Worrall and Richard Lawson both scored paid maximums in the Pirates’ 54-36 win over Birmingham on Wednesday.
Worrall picked up 13+2 from five rides with Lawson on 10+2 from four, whilst skipper Danny King won his last three outings to finish on 12.
The Brummies are still without a league point from four away matches so far, but did fare the best of any visitors to Wimborne Road this season, with Adam Ellis top-scoring on 12 and Ashley Morris adding 9+2.
King said: “I had a little bit of a sulk after my first two rides and had to make some changes.
“The track caught me out a bit as there wasn’t quite as much material on it as I had thought during the track walk and so we just had to de-tune the bike a little bit after I persevered for two rides, and in doing that I was able to make better starts.”
Birmingham boss Laurence Rogers said: “It was a bit of a similar story to our last couple of away meetings to be honest.
“We pushed the opposition fairly hard in the first half of the meeting and were still in with a shout of a league point.
“But we just allowed our opponents to pull away in those last three races again and that’s something we need to nip in the bud.”

OXFORD will take a four-point KO Cup advantage to Redcar after being held to a 47-43 victory at Cowley in Wednesday’s first leg.
The Cheetahs roared into a 17-7 lead after four races, but the Bears fought back strongly and a last-heat 5-1 from Charles Wright and Erik Riss brought the scores back close ahead of the return.
Dan Gilkes proved an inspired guest for Oxford with 12+1 whilst skipper Scott Nicholls scored 11. Riss (11+1) and Wright (11) led the way for the visitors.

IPSWICH and King’s Lynn complete the Southern League Cup group at Foxhall tonight (Thursday) with the Witches chasing their first win of the season.
The Stars have already qualified for the Final by virtue of three wins out of three so far and will look to complete a clean sweep at the home of their local rivals.
Ipswich welcome back Erik Riss and Cameron Heeps from injury and illness respectively, and bring in club No.8 Danyon Hume to guest for Paul Starke who is still ruled out.
Boss Ritchie Hawkins said: “It’s very important that we get a win on Thursday. The season hasn’t started great results wise, and it will be nice to have a 1-7 back of Ipswich Witches.
“We are at the stage already of the season for the fans that we need to get a win on the board and get everyone’s morale back up.”
