ABANDONED MEETING INVESTIGATION
BRITISH Speedway Promoters’ Ltd and our official tyre partner Anlas can confirm a full investigation into Monday’s abandoned Premiership fixture at Peterborough is taking place.
All parties are fully committed to understanding the circumstances which led to a halt being called after ten races of the Panthers’ match against Sheffield, and to avoid a repeat in the future.
Going forward, we can immediately confirm that for the remaining meetings at the East of England Arena this season, all riders will be provided with two new tyres at the start of the event.
This will be in place in time for the Peterborough v Ipswich fixture on Monday September 5.
The Alwalton circuit is unique in the sport, and has previously presented challenges with tyres, regardless of manufacturer.
It is possible that the conditions arising from the afternoon start to the meeting were a contributory factor, especially bearing in mind that the previous occasion in which there were significant issues was also a Bank Holiday daytime event, although in that case it was possible to complete all 15 races.
BSP Ltd and Anlas treat rider safety as top priority, and whilst accepting that isolated incidents are and always have been inevitable, we are all determined to reach a conclusion which overcomes the challenges presented by this circuit. As a club, Peterborough is as important to us as all others.
Anlas were immediately in touch with us when they became aware of Monday’s issues, and we thank them for their continued support.
We look forward to working with Anlas on finding the solutions which ensure the circumstances of Peterborough on Monday are not repeated, and we are all sorry for supporters present on the day that the meeting had to be curtailed.
