LET THE PLAY-OFFS BEGIN
WOLVERHAMPTON and Sheffield launch the Premiership play-offs with the first leg of their semi-final clash at Monmore tonight (Monday).
The Tigers topped the league table and have performed well in two of their three visits to the West Midlands this season, with Wolves edging a thriller 46-44 just over a month ago.
Both teams are at full strength with the second leg scheduled for Owlerton next Thursday (October 6).
Wolves skipper Sam Masters said: “Sheffield have put together a really strong team this year and we’ve had some really close meetings against them. “This is the beginning of the play-offs though and it doesn’t really matter what’s happened before now, everything starts again here.
“We know if everything clicks together on the night and all seven of us Wolves boys do our job for the team that we’re capable of coming up with a big result at home.”Tigers boss Simon Stead said: “I think we’re in for a great couple of meetings with Wolverhampton.
“They’re a solid side, they ride their place really, really well but we’ve shown on numerous occasions that we can do the business there.“We’ll go there and do our best and build up whatever we can to bring back to Sheffield for the second leg.”

GLASGOW and Poole had contrasting reactions after their Championship play-off semi-final at Ashfield was abandoned after five completed races.
The Tigers were leading 17-13 when a halt was called after the first attempt to run Heat 6 which saw home guest Paul Starke fall on the third bend. There had been an earlier delay to the meeting due to rain.
It means Wednesday’s fixture at Wimborne Road will now become the first leg of the tie, with Leicester awaiting the aggregate winners in the Grand Final.
Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “The track just wasn’t raceable after the rain unfortunately.
“Paul Starke fell off while we were on what looked like a comfortable 5-1, and he came in and said there was just no grip at all.
“Craig Cook came in after his previous heat and said you can ride round, but you can’t race, so the fans wouldn’t see proper racing and I think it was the right decision.”
Poole co-promoter Danny Ford said: “As a unit our boys certainly wanted to continue racing, and we all felt that the match could well have gone the distance, had people been willing to give it some time.
“Unfortunately the referee made his decision after listening to the arguments on both sides, coming down firmly in favour of Glasgow’s preference to call it a day. “It is extremely frustrating and annoying for us and for the handful of fans who made the long journey North.”

JORDAN Jenkins was crowned National Development League Riders’ Champion with an impressive performance at Scunthorpe on Sunday.
The Oxford skipper won the prestige meeting on 14 points, one ahead of former champion Max Clegg who defeated Jason Edwards in a run-off for second place after both finished with 13.
Jenkins dropped his only point in Heat 9 to Edwards in what was, at the time, a clash of three unbeaten riders as Joe Thompson and Ben Morley had won their first two outings.
But he then won a crunch clash with Clegg in Heat 14 and clinched the title in Heat 20, with the race being awarded after Jack Kingston fell at the end of lap three.
Jenkins said: “I’m over the moon. It’s a tough meeting to win, because there were some quality riders in it. Jason beat me in one race and I had other riders pushing me in the others.
“I was watching the whole meeting, so I knew what was going on and I knew what I needed to do in my final race.
“I fluffed the start at the first attempt, so I was a bit fortunate that it got pulled back. I made a few changes to the bike prior to the re-run, and it all came good.“It’s great to win something for Oxford – I was mindful that I was representing them in this meeting.”
