SHEFFIELD ARE TABLE TOPPERS
SHEFFIELD completed the regular Premiership season at the top of the table thanks to a 54-36 win over Ipswich at Owlerton.
The Tigers won ten races on the night and limited the Witches to just one heat advantage, which came in the final race of the meeting when Jason Doyle and Danny King combined for a 5-1.
Rising Star Connor Mountain impressed for the hosts with 11+2 whilst guest Sam Masters (11) and No.1 Jack Holder (10+1) were also in double figures. Doyle ended a stellar league campaign in Witches colours with 15+1 from six rides.
Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “I hate the phrase ‘nothing fixture’ because you always want to win, and it was a nice way to sign off our regular league campaign.”
Ipswich manager Ritchie Hawkins said: “The track staff at Sheffield did an amazing job to get the meeting on, they had stock cars here last night and bad weather, and they couldn’t get on the track early because of dog racing. They did a brilliant job to get it on and the track was good. It wasn’t a great team performance, and it was a bad result.”

KING’S Lynn wrapped up the 2022 campaign at the Adrian Flux Arena by defeating Premiership champions Belle Vue 55-35.
Richard Lawson scored a five-ride paid maximum for the Stars, with 14+1, and Frederik Jakobsen continued his major impact at reserve with 13+1, with Rising Star Jason Edwards impressing on 8+2.
The Aces’ scorechart was dominated by Brady Kurtz with 16+1 and Matej Zagar on 12+1 as the visitors raced without recent signing Robert Lambert who was ruled out with a knee injury.
Stars boss Alex Brady said: “We did a thoroughly professional job. It might have been seen as a bit of a dead rubber, but all six of our boys did the job they came to do.
“Belle Vue came here to win too. I know people will draw their own conclusions about the scoreline but there was some terrific racing, some of the best of the season to be honest, and I was really pleased.”
Aces manager Mark Lemon said: “We’ve got to give a lot of credit to King’s Lynn tonight. They had a point to prove and the track was very well prepared.
“Unfortunately, we weren’t at full strength, being without both Charles (Wright) and Jye (Etheridge), and the loss of Robert Lambert really hurt us, and we wish all the boys a speedy recovery.”

LEICESTER stage the fifth round of the Premiership Pairs at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena tonight (Tuesday – UK time) – stepping in to run the meeting on behalf of Sheffield.
Ipswich lead the series with two rounds remaining, holding a 12-point advantage over King’s Lynn, and the Witches are represented by Jason Doyle, Danny King and Rising Star Anders Rowe as they look to seal the silverware prior to Thursday’s finale at Belle Vue.
The Stars include Richie Worrall, who races for Leicester in the Championship, and both Sheffield and Belle Vue are also in contention for top places overall.
Ipswich manager Ritchie Hawkins said: “We will look to win the meeting again and seal the overall win in the fifth round, but it will be another strong line-up so it will be tough to win another round.
“We need to get as many points as possible to make sure we go into the last round in as strong a position as possible. We have Doyley and Danny, so I feel like we have a strong pairing.
“It is probably better for everyone other than Sheffield because it is an even playing field and there is no home track advantage.”

SHEFFIELD have named Jack Holder as their first confirmed signing for 2023 as they launch their bid to go one step further in the Premiership.
Grand Prix star Holder will be back for a third successive season in Tigers colours, having been involved in the line-ups which reached the play-off semi-finals last year and the Grand Final this time around.
Manager Simon Stead said: “It’s great to start off by bringing your No.1 back. “I’m delighted that we’ve got Jack back because he sort of feels at home here. “We’ve talked to him about our plans with how we want to make the team look and how that’s going to shape up and he’s excited by that which is obviously really, really pleasing.”

FREDERIK Jakobsen will be back with King’s Lynn next season after a hugely successful spell in Stars colours in the closing stages of the current campaign.
The Dane has been a high scorer at reserve since joining the club and racked up 13+1 in their win over Belle Vue on Monday.
Said Jakobsen: “Everything has been really good so far and as I have said before, a huge thank you must go to Alex (Brady, team manager) for bringing me in.
“It was a bit of a risk to take with only a couple of months left in this season, but he saw it as an investment for next year as well and I am pleased to sign up for a manager who thinks like that.
“I thank everyone here for making me feel very welcome and I am stoked to be back and working hard to get points for the Stars next year.”

MILDENHALL will stage a double-header against Leicester on Thursday evening in both the NDL Grand Final and the KO Cup Final.
Start-time for the meeting will be 7.45pm (parade 7.30pm) after the weather intervened with the planned running of the meeting on Sunday.
It will be the first leg of the league decider, to be completed at Leicester on Saturday, whilst the Lion Cubs carry a 26-point lead into the second leg of the Cup-tie.
Co-promoter Greg Palmer said: “We’d like to thank all our supporters and Leicester Speedway club too for their patience as we’ve worked to get a date for this restaging.
“And we would like to thank Deane Wood of Spedeworth, Kevin Boothby of Suffolk Downs for their support and meeting sponsor Greenheath’s who’ve made this possible.”
