SHEFFIELD WINS PREMIERSHIP
SHEFFIELD sealed their first ever top-flight silverware on Wednesday as they were crowned 2022 Premiership League Cup winners.
The Tigers rounded off the season with a 50-34 home win over King’s Lynn and a 101-73 aggregate triumph following victory on the road in Norfolk last month.
The start time was delayed by 50 minutes to enable extra track work to be carried out following further heavy afternoon downpours.
And there were plenty of tight tussles and entertaining battles once the action did commence, before more rain ended the tie a race early following Heat 14.
Adam Ellis (10), Tobiasz Musielak (9+1) and Connor Mountain (9+1) led the way for the Tigers whilst Richard Lawson gave an outstanding display for the Stars to score 14, and Richie Worrall added 9+1.
Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “I think we’ve got what we deserved.
“We’ve been consistently brilliant all season so the fact that we’ve got a bit of silverware to show for our efforts come the end of the year is what we deserve.
“I think we’ve got to say a big thanks to the track staff, the fans for turning up, the riders for giving it 110 per cent and the referee (Chris Durno) for being on-side – November speedway is never going to be pretty, but the track actually came really good and we saw some great racing out there.”

LEICESTER have switched Friday’s Championship and NDL Grand Finals to King’s Lynn due to continuing weather and track issues at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena.
The Lions say they have taken “a safe and sensible decision” to ensure the matches are run, with an inspection of their own circuit on Wednesday confirming that the event would still be in considerable doubt at that venue.
A club statement said: “We would like to place on record our thanks to Keith Chapman and other track curators who have given up their time over the last week in a bid to make our circuit raceable for these Grand Finals.
“Whilst the main cause of the problems has been the extreme weather, we plan to make further investment over the winter to ensure we go into the 2023 season with an improved infrastructure.
“As a club, we are gutted that we cannot stage the Finals on our own track, and purely in sporting terms we realise we are having to sacrifice home track advantage – but when the best in the business have advised us that it would be nigh-on impossible, we have had to take the best option available to have the titles decided on-track.”

POPULAR Polish star Tobiasz Musielak will be back with Sheffield for a second straight season in 2023.
The return of Musielak, a former Premiership title winner with Swindon, was announced by the Tigers after their League Cup triumph over King’s Lynn on Wednesday.
Manager Simon Stead said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have Tobi back in 2023. We felt he came in on a really good average for us this year and he’s delivered both home and away all season long.
“He’s scored some really important points for the team, he’s delivered plenty of entertainment throughout the year and the Sheffield supporters love him.
“To have Jack (Holder) and Tobi already back with us next year is an absolutely tremendous way to get the team plans up and running, and we’re already looking forward to 2023.”
