James Inglis is the new points leader in the 2022-23 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series championship
Heading into round five of the series at the Perth Motorplex Speedway on Monday night, December 26.
Ingls was on 712 points, six points shy of newly-minted WA Sprintcar Champion Dayne Kingshott (718).
A fourth place to Inglis in the latest show, the first Australian home behind the all-American podium Tyler Courtney, Cory Eliason and Brock Zearfoss.
It was also a return to his family-owned W80 where he started the season off before three appearances in the Diamond Bay Motorsport W26 that is currently being driven by Eliason.
Kingshott finished eighth after starting from position three, losing ground with a broken Jacobs Ladder in the car.
Inglis now has 854 points thanks to a pair of eighths, a win, a third and a fourth, while Kingshott has 852 points courtesy of a tenth, two wins, a third and an eighth.
Third overall is Jason Kendrick on 842 points, following a pair of seconds, a fourth, a sixth and a 13th.
Defending series champion Callum Williamson (796 points) after posting a sixth, a DNF, a seventh, an 11th and a fifth last night (his best result so far this season).
Rounding out the top five is Taylor Milling on 784 points, with his result sheet showing a third, an 11th, a DNF, a second and a 10th.
The top five all played their Joker cards at the first of five opportunities at the start of the season.
The second opportunity was last night and only Brad Maiolo declared his hand at the start of the night to double his feature race points.
He finished 13th in the 30-lapper which was not the result he was hoping for, however he moved up from ninth overall to sixth and is now on 760 points.
Andrew Priolo is still seventh after his strong drive from 16th to ninth in the last round.
Jason Pryde is sixth eighth after he posted a 12th in round five, while David Priolo has moved from 12th to ninth after his seventh this week.
Kye Scroop, who didn’t contest the latest round, dropped from sixth to 10th.
