EASTERN CREEK SPEEDWAY CANCELS JANUARY 8
The running of the Sydney Royale Sprintcar international event at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Speedway on Sunday, January 8 has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
This was the third attempt by track operators to run the Sydney Royale after both originally scheduled dates Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7, were also washed out.
A statement from the track said: “We have just undertaken a further inspection of the track following light showers this-morning, and unfortunately over the course of the day, turns three and four are just getting wetter.
“In consultation with competitors, in the interest of their safety and in consideration of our interstate travellers, we have made the difficult decision to cancel racing for the weekend.
“Special thank you to everyone that travelled from interstate to be here. As the Sprintcar States Series now heads to Queensland, we wish the teams better fortune and weather than what we have endured.
“If you purchased tickets to tonight’s event, we will be automatically refunding them for you, no need to contact us.
“Again, we appreciate everyone’s support and messages of encouragement and are disappointed we can’t go ahead with the event, unfortunately we have no control over the weather.
Special thank you to everyone who travelled from interstate to be here.
This latest cancellation follows after last week’s January 4 fixture of the international Sprintcar series which also was a victim to the weather.
