PASCOE WINS GRAND NATIONAL!
National Champion Matt Pascoe has recorded a dominate victory in the Super Sedan Grand National at AutoKlene Hobart Raceway.
Pascoe entered the second night of competition on top of the points standings and pulled off an incredible win in the opening heat of the night to extend his advantage at the top.
New Tasmanian Champion Jamie Collins held off a hard charging Sean Black and Callum Harper to secure the win in heat eight.
Harper would get the win in the penultimate heat of weekend, leading home New South Welshman Lachlan Onley, and Tasmania’s Wayne Dillon.
Brad Pascoe recorded his win of the weekend in the final heat of the night. Pascoe would narrowly hold off Steve Jordan in second, and Western Australia’s Lee Aylett in third.
Matty Pascoe was the top point scorer after five rounds of heats and accounted for Tyson Moon in the pole shuffle to secure pole position.
Pascoe would opt to start the fifty lap feature race from the outside with Moon to start from pole.
Pascoe stormed to the lead into turn one as Moon settled into second, with Hobart’s Steve Latham in third.
Harper having started from third lost a position in the early exchanges, but made quick moves on Latham and Moon in consecutive laps to move to second on lap four.
Brad Pascoe moved on to the podium on lap five, also by making passes on Latham and Moon in consecutive laps.
Out front Matt Pascoe had gotten away to a comfortable lead as he worked his way towards lap traffic.
Sean Black, having started from seventh, made his way into third on lap twenty three, taking the position from Brad Pascoe.
Matt Pascoe found himself behind a wall of lap cars and Harper was able to reel him in to within less than a second from the lead around the half way mark of the race.
Pascoe was absolutely flawless in traffic and was able to re-build his lead to just over a straight away when the only caution light of the race came out on lap thirty six for Michael Hally who had made hard contact with the turn two wall ending his race.
Pascoe streaked away over the final thirteen laps to go on to record a comfortable victory, and his fifth Grand National win of his career.
Black applied the pressure to Harper, but Harper held firm to hold on to second place. Black would cross the line in third, ahead of Latham in fourth, and Brad Pascoe would round out the top five.
The 2023 Tassie Tiger Super Sedan Trail continues this weekend with the Grand Prix at Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway.
