Eastern Creek Speedway’s reverend Garry Coleman took a heavy fall in the pit area at the venue, Saturday night, March 18, and was treated at the track’s medical centre before he was transported to Blacktown Hospital, western Sydney.
He suffered severe cuts and abrasions to the head and severe shock, however further examination by the medical team at the track indicated a heart trauma had occurred.
He was stabilised before taken by ambulance to the hospital’s emergency unit where he remained throughout the night and into Sunday morning daylight hours.
Following the fall he was monitored for an irregular heart beat. He was reported in a stable condition Sunday and was alert, talking to medical staff. Hospital personnel have indicated he will be admitted for more tests, also undergoing further cardiology assessment, and is expected to remain in Blacktown Hospital for a week. He also sustained four cracked ribs and required five stitches to a nasty gash on the back of his head.
On behalf of everyone at Eastern Creek Speedway we wish Garry a speedy recovery and hope to see his smiling face back at the track as soon as possible.
Dennis Newlyn.
