VALE ERIC INMON
By: Dennis Newlyn
Speedcar stalwart and owner of the famous Ray Revell Offenhauser, Eric Inmon, has passed away aged 82.
Eric had been in ill health for some time suffering from respiratory and heart problems. He spent the last five weeks of his life in Port Macquarie Base Hospital where he died on the morning of June 21, 2023. Eric, who resided at Port Macquarie, NSW, for some years after previously living in Sydney, came in on the ground floor of the Vintage Speedcar Association of NSW in 1983 and was an extremely passionate man. His idol was Ray Revell and for a time Eric served on his pit crew.
Eric was his own man who called a spade a spade and was never afraid to cast a viewpoint on any topic.
But it was his love of Speedcar racing’s golden era that he spoke most highly. He secured the Revell Offy from New Zealand in the mid-seventies and spent several years restoring the car to its former glory.
In 1987 Eric Inmon attracted another of his racing heroes, the long since retired Johnny Stewart, back to the Sydney Showground for a memorable Sunday afternoon Speedcar track running exhibition as part of the Sydney Motor Show that year. Stewart’s spectacular fence scraping drive in the Revell Offy is still spoken of to this day! Eric also around this time organised Sydney speedway film nights which were always well attended.
Rest in peace Eric
