DANE ENDS CAREER SUNDAY
POPULAR Danish racer Ulrich Ostergaard brings down the curtain on his career with today’s (Sunday, 4pm- UK time) Farewell Meeting at Peterborough.
Ostergaard was involved in two top-flight title wins for the Panthers as well as Fours and Cup successes, and also gave good service to several other clubs during a two-decade British career.
Peterborough co-promoter Carl Johnson said: “Legend is used as a term too easily these days, but Ulrich Ostergaard is a legend at this club.
“He was a superb captain for me, and a superb club man – not just the way he rode his bike but also what he did off the track with the supporters, he was brilliant, easily one of the best riders I’ve had to deal with.
“As a person he’s a fantastic bloke, and I’ve met nobody better with the fans and with the kids, and with the sponsors.
“I know Ulle and his team have been working hard to secure the riders to make up a fantastic looking line-up, and I hope to see as many people here as possible to give him the fond farewell he deserves after all his years’ service for the Panthers.”
Ostergaard has arranged a Four Team Tournament with an individual Final and several support races – and the meeting will feature all of the riders who won the Premier League Fours title for Peterborough in 2017, when he was joined by Chris Harris, Paul Starke and Simon Lambert.
Said Ostergaard: “I can’t believe the generosity I have received in the lead up to Sunday, I have been overwhelmed by the response we have had to various sponsorship packages and the auctions, Sunday should be a great fun day for everyone.
“This is my time to say thanks and goodbye to all the fans who have stood by me and supported me in my career.”

EDINBURGH overcame two withdrawals to notch a 51-38 win at Berwick and move up a place in the National Development League table.
Already using rider replacement, the Monarchs Academy lost Kyran Lyden who aggravated his shoulder injury and Mickie Simpson who suffered burns to his leg when his bike caught fire.
But the Bullets had their own problems as skipper Greg Blair crashed out of the meeting in Heat 7, suffering concussion and a damaged shoulder.
Visiting heat-leaders Adam Roynon (14) and Max Clegg (11) were supported by a great performance by Dayle Wood at reserve, who scored 13+3 from seven rides, whilst Connor Coles scored 11 for the hosts.
Edinburgh boss Scott Wilson said: “Obviously I’m delighted with the result but what was most pleasing was the manner of it.
“We had our backs to the wall losing Mickie and Kyran early on, with Alex (Spooner) missing already, but the other five boys dug deep and got us over the line with a little to spare. I’m extremely proud of them for that.
“Dayle Wood was our match-winner. Having to take seven rides to help cover for his missing team-mates on a track he had never ridden before was a big ask. He rolled his sleeves up and delivered for us – a fantastic performance.”
Berwick boss Kevin Little said: “You couldn’t fault our battling qualities, but once again we saw points disappear through mechanical failures and falls when well placed.
“It was a night when you couldn’t afford to take your eyes of the action for a minute and I think the crowd certainly got its money’s worth!”

NATIONAL Development League leaders Oxford have the opportunity to go clear at the top when they travel to Kent today (Sunday – UK time).
The Chargers have won their last five matches, including away victories at Edinburgh, Berwick and Workington to establish a strong position in the race for the Grand Final.
They face a Royals side who recorded a big win over Belle Vue in their last outing at Iwade, and who declare an unchanged line-up.
Oxford operate rider replacement for the injured Kelsey Dugard and bring in Jason Garrard at reserve with Luke Killeen still ruled out.
