YOUNG GUNS OGILVIE AND COX TEAM UP IN AUSTRALIAN SPEEDWAY CENTENARY
Young guns, Bayley Ogilvie and Denny Cox are the latest pairing announced to contest the Australian Speedway Centenary, at North Brisbane Speedway. Aged 24 and 26 respectively, the dynamic duo, will line-up in the prestigious Sidecar Centurions Trophy, on December 28.
It was stated in a previous media release, that Denny Cox would be partnering New Zealand’s Andrew Buchanan, but in recent days, Cox has confirmed he’ll be riding with Bayley Ogilvie. Andrew Buchanan, meantime, is expected to name Drew Buchanan as his team-mate for the event.
Bayley Ogilvie is considered one of Australian Speedway Sidecar racing’s brightest young stars and given North Brisbane is his home track, it is expected he’ll rattle some big reputations in the elite 16 team field.
“We’re both really pumped to get a spot in this massive event in our own backyard and Denny and I are looking forward to shaking up all the old boys,” Bayley said with a laugh.
Ogilvie and Cox, riding together, finished third in last season’s Queensland Championship, underlining their undoubted potential.
Bayley has also had experience as a speedway sidecar passenger, partnering New Zealand’s Jamie Moohan, in international competition, finishing runner-up in the New Zealand Championship.
Meanwhile, Denny Cox has accrued an impressive resume, having won a Victorian Championship and placing second in the Australian Championship (with Andrew Buchanan). In addition he scored a second place in the Oceania Championship and a second place finish in the NSW Championship.
The Australian Speedway Centenary will be staged at North Brisbane Speedway on December 28 and 29, 2023.
Racing starts both nights at 5.30pm and the blockbuster event features the Speedway Centurions Sidecar Trophy on night one (December 28), followed by the 500cc Solo Centurion Classic on night two (December 29).
Tickets will go on sale soon.
