Californian speedway icon, Sudden Sam Ermolenko, will be an integral part of the upcoming Australian Speedway Centenary, being staged at North Brisbane Speedway, on December 28 and 29.
Ermolenko, one of the all-time great international speedway riders, on the world stage, is a six times FIM Gold Medal winner, having won the World Individual Championship in 1993, the World Pairs Championship in 1992 and the World Team Cup in 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1998.
Born in Maywood, California, Sam has agreed to terms with the promoters of the Australian Speedway Centenary to fulfil the role as expert commentator for the two night super show.
His superb insight will be featured on the worldwide live stream coverage, Fox Sports TV coverage, and the track commentary within the North Brisbane Speedway arena.
“Sam is a great commentator with vast television experience in the UK and Europe and we’re thrilled to have him joining our highly credible team,” said David Tapp.
“Sam worked with us last season in presenting live stream coverage of the Australian Championship finale and Darcy Ward Invitational and his expertise gained rave reviews from viewers all around world.
“As a rider, Sam Ermolenko, enjoyed a glittering career and his ability to provide expert analysis, as a commentator, he is world class. Having him join our broadcast team for the Australian Speedway Centenary is a real coup for the event and fans alike.
“Sam will be one of two former world champions joining our commentary line-up (the other to be announced soon) and it’s an honour to have him involved in such a prominent role,” Ward said.
Meanwhile, Sam Ermolenko, says he can’t wait to get back to Australia, a country he’s visited, on countless occasions, when he was at the peak of his powers as an international track super star.
“This is awesome,” Sam enthused from his UK base.
“I love Australia and I’m well aware of the significance of the Australian Speedway Centenary. Australia gave the sport of speedway to the world and I’m so excited to be heading back Down Under to be a part of this amazing event.
“Darcy and Tappy (co-promoters) are in the process of assembling an incredible field for night two, (December 29); the Solo Centurion and the line-up for the opening night (December 28), the Sidecar Centurions, is arguably the best field ever put together”.
Sam Ermolenko will join David Tapp and Rod Colquhoun in the commentary line-up, as well as additional guest experts.
Sam will also fulfil some ambassadorial roles across the two nights and it’s highly probable he’ll do a few laps on the track too.
