AUSTRALIAN SPEEDWAY CENTENARY: LEGENDARY DENNIS NASH TO APPEAR
LEGENDARY DENNIS NASH CONFIRMED FOR AUSTRALIAN SPEEDWAY CENTENARY
Organisers of the upcoming Australian Speedway Centenary, being conducted at North Brisbane Speedway, on December 28 and 29, have announced today one of the sport’s all-time greatest sidecar riders, Dennis Nash, will be taking part in the Cavalcade of Legends Parade.
Nash, one of Western Australia’s most iconic speedway heroes, will be honoured on night one (December 28), as a key part of legend’s presentation, being conducted alongside the staging of the Serco Sidecar Centurions Trophy which will feature a galaxy of stars from past decades.
Dennis Nash is a five times Australian Speedway Sidecar Champion, claiming his maiden national title victory, with passenger, Russell Hearn, in 1976, at Newcastle in the NSW Hunter Valley. Subsequent victories followed in 1981 (with Denis Mortimer), 1983 (with Denis Mortimer), and 1988 and ’89 (with Jeff Gittus). Nash also finished runner-up twice (’77 & ’80) and in third position in 1973.
“It is my honour to be asked to participate in the Cavalcade of Legends,” says Dennis Nash enthusiastically.
“I love the idea of the Australian Speedway Centenary and how the two night show is being put together. There’s no chance in the world I’d miss it and I’m very humbled to be asked to be a part of it.”
“The concept of staging a massive sidecar event on night one, followed by an incredible solo meeting (the Ikon Suspension 500cc Solo Centurion Classic) on night two, is a fabulous idea. Fans will get to see the best of the best, in both the two and three wheel categories”.
Dennis Nash will be accompanied at the Australian Speedway Centenary event, by his son Darren, who has also been an outstanding sidecar racer over a long period.
Further sidecar and solo legends will be announced for the Cavalcade of Legends in coming days.
Dennis Nash, along with Jeff Gittus, was inducted into the Australian Speedway Hall of Fame in 2011.
