Multi Australian Champion Mark Robinson will defend the Hernes Security sponsored V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup when Castrol Lismore Speedway turns on the lights for the 2023-24 season Saturday night, November 4.
National titleholder Mitch Randall heads up an impressive entry list to contest the traditional season opener that also includes another Australian number one and dominant Lord’s Mayor’s Cup performer over the years Andrew Pezzutti.
Also featured on the variety-filled programme will be racing for Wingless Sprints, RSA Sedans, Four Cylinder Sedans, AMCAs and Junior Sedans for Top Stars and New Stars categories.
This will be the second season conducted under the promotional team of Mick and Kim Saurer.
“We are ready to go after having done plenty of work at the ground during the off season and we have strong nominations for all divisions to start the season, which is very pleasing,” Kim Sauer said.
“It’s also wonderful to again have the time honoured V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup, which has been a part of the local scene for many years, to open the new season.”
The corresponding fixture last year heralded the first meeting under the control of Mick and Kim Sauer.
Robinson, whose run of success in the Lord Mayor’s Cup traces back to the early 2000s, will definitely be chasing a repeat performance after his impressive 2022 victory.
But he faces some tough opposition not only from Randall and Pezzutti, but also Trent Schofield, Brock Armstrong, Blake Eveleigh, Seiton Connor-Young, Tony Dunn, Luke Dunn and Riley Smith amongst the cast of the fast.
The dominant Wingless Sprintcar runners, Jacob Jolley, Jacob Waller, Ray Eggins and Errol Campbell are included in the nominations.
All of the racing divisions are well supported with over 100 entries which represents one of the most impressive car counts recorded for the venue’s season opening meeting in recent history.
A spectacular fireworks display will be a part of what promises to be a massive night of speedway entertainment to commence the new season.
FAN APPRECIATION DAY
As part of the promotion leading up to the first show, a fan appreciation event will be held Saturday morning between 9-11am at the John Crowther Car Park, Lismore.
There will be speedway cars on display, free giveaways, driver interviews, while as part of that night’s initial meeting of the season, a free pit walk will be conducted for those patrons with an online ticket purchase.
More information can be obtained from Lismore Speedway office 66212733 during business hours.
Special thanks also to the 2023-24 Track Championship sponsors: Northern Rivers Used Cars (V8 Dirt Modifieds), Masonry Grounded Projects (Wingless Sprintcars), Lawrence & Hanson (RSA Sedans), Coolamon Quarries Ocean Shores Pty Ltd (AMCA Nationals) and Slideways Go Karting Centres (Junior Sedans).
