BOYCE, WILTSHIRE, SULLIVAN AT AUSTRALIAN SPEEDWAY CENTENARY
Organisers of the Australian Speedway Centenary have today confirmed that three of the nation’s best ever solo riders, Craig Boyce, Todd Wiltshire and Ryan Sullivan, are locked in to participate in the Cavalcade of Legends on night two (December 29) of the Centennial celebration.
The Cavalcade of Legends, being staged both nights (sidecar legends on night one and solos icons on night two), is shaping as an enthralling aspect of what is the biggest event in Australian speedway racing this summer.
Craig Boyce, Todd Wiltshire and Ryan Sullivan all enjoyed long and successful international careers, carving out reputations as truly elite riders in a truly golden era that comprised some of the biggest names in speedway’s 100 year history.
The above trio faced the likes of Tony Rickardsson (Sweden), Hans Nielsen (Denmark), Sam Ermolenko, Greg Hancock and Billy Hamill, all from America – and legendary compatriots Jason Crump and Leigh Adams, to name just seven super stars, of what was a magnificent period in world speedway.
Craig Boyce (NSW) was a three times Australian Champion, Australian Best Pairs Champion, four times NSW Champion, Series 500 International Masters Champion, world number three (1994 World Final in Denmark), FIM World Team Cup winner and a prolific point scorer in the UK and Europe.
Todd Wiltshire (NSW), regarded as one of the fastest riders out of the starting tapes, in the sport’s history, is a two times Australian Champion, Australian Best Pairs Champion, three times NSW Champion, former World number three (1990 World Final), Intercontinental Champion and two time FIM World Team Cup Champion among a plethora of international success.
Ryan Sullivan (VIC) is a former Australian Champion, three times South Australian Champion, Overseas Champion, Intercontinental Champion, British Elite League Riders’ Champion, Czech Golden Helmet Champion (twice) and 1999 FIM World Team Cup Champion. He too, enjoyed immense success abroad in a sparkling career.
Boyce, Wiltshire and Sullivan, are welcome additions to the many big names from yesteryear that will be honoured at the Australian Speedway Centenary. They join the likes of Jason Crump, Jim Airey, Phil Crump, John Titman and Phil Herne as the solo legends, named thus far, appearing at the event. More speedway solo legends will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Australian Speedway Centenary is being staged at North Brisbane Speedway on December 28 and 29 with on track action commencing, both nights at 5.30pm EST. Spectator gates will open at 3pm.
