The Bohud Racing team with Michael Stewart driving the car are excited to reveal their ‘Ultimate Pink Night’ livery on Saturday night for round three of the Queensland Speedway Spares Ultimate Sprintcar Championship. Michael is an accomplished Speedcar driver and has booked his seat for the Chili Bowl Nationals at the Tulsa Expo Indoor Raceway in Oklahoma in January.
However the focus now is his 2023-24 Sprintcar season driving the Bohud Racing team 410 Sprintcar. Stewart has settled into the Sprintcar well and adapted with some impressive results so far in Toowoomba, finishing third in the feature race in round two and is aiming to back up that performance once again for a spot on the podium come feature race time.
The exciting news this week is that Cody Moroske has joined forces with Bill Mann and will drive the Queensland Speedway Spares Q16 for the rest of the season. Cody certainly knows his way around Toowoomba Speedway and has had some impressive wins over his career in Toowoomba and is certainly one of the more exciting drivers to watch, never holding back while the green light is on.
Speedcars are back in Toowoomba with the running of the Danny Davidson Memorial.
Danny is one of only three drivers to take out the Queensland Championship four times through his racing career, the first being in 1972 at the Brisbane Exhibition Grounds, with the subsequent titles being won at Toowoomba and Maryborough Speedway tracks in 1981, 1982 and 1991.
Danny sadly passed away in October, 2000, but his legacy in Speedcar racing is will always be remembered by many throughout the sport, and honours Danny each year with the perpetual Danny Davidson Memorial Trophy which again has attracted a quality field of 27 nominations from Queensland and interstate. Leading the driver’s line-up for the race is Sydney’s Nathan Smee who has also won an Australian Championship and has raced in Toowoomba regularly over the last 20 years. New Zealanders Scotty Farmer and Michael Kendall also top the star-packed list of drivers. Teenage driver Boyd Chaffey has impressed in his debut season and has the equipment and determination to find himself on the podium.
Round five of the McCosker Super Sedan Series which is also round two of the Ultimate Super Sedan Championship is to be held on Saturday night. Darren Kane and Mick Nicola will be making the trip up the range and are no strangers to Toowoomba and could quite easily find themselves on the podium on Saturday night as could local star Sean Black and Warwicks Mark O’Brien which brings us now to 24 cars. Add to the list Tania Smith and the current Queensland Champion Brad Pascoe the racing will be fast and furious as they chase valuable series points.
Fresh from a win in Gympie last weekend will be Matt Pascoe and the popular Mitchell Gee along with JJ Hamilton who isn’t far from his first feature win in Toowoomba. Steve Jordan has always shown plenty of speed at Toowoomba and a strong and exciting showing from him can be expected. Dylan Barrow doing double duties also driving a Modified Sedan. There is an emerging talent of younger drivers too, with the likes of Hayden and Zac Brims, JJ Hamilton, and Zac Pascoe set to make an impression on Saturday night.
Modified Sedans take to the track also for round two of their Smack Down Series, a whopping 41 entries have been received so far just prior to the close of nominations. Just to make the feature you will have to be on your A Game. The who’s of Australian Modified Sedan drivers converge to the garden city with the likes of the current Queensland Champion Matt Nelson from Victoria and Marybroughs Joel Berkley who won the West Australian title last season and the defending T-Bar Nationals Champion.
Berkley also leading the series with Nathan and Shane MacDonald in second and third in the points. If you include Lismore’s Greg Worling, Rodney Pammenter and Victorian Dylan Barrow plus Adian Raymont it leaves you to wonder just who may win the feature race come Saturday night. One thing for sure it’s going to be well earnt and extremely entertaining.
Toowoomba’s Brendan Kennedy is starting to find form after debuting a new car three meetings ago and will be one to watch on Saturday night.
