GOODYER’S THREE IN A ROW!
By Thomas Miles.
Jock Goodyer completed a hat-trick of Sprintcar Speedweek wins by being victorious in dominant fashion at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway late December.
Despite Australian star James McFadden and fellow World of Outlaws star Carson Macedo joining the field, Goodyer could not be stopped from securing a three-peat.
The Tasmanian in #A1 led all 35 laps of the A Main to cruise to a 2.5s win over Brock Hallett and McFadden.
Despite being in such great form, Goodyer was relieved to finally get a win at the Blue Lake City’s “Bullring”.
“This is my first win at this track (Borderline) so it’s good to finally tick that off my list,” he said.
“Its also pretty cool that it also included the memorial race for David Vears, so to win those races is always nice.
“The next round should be pretty tough, I have won there (Avalon) before but there are a lot of guys who get around there well. All we can do is head over there and give it our best shot’’
Goodyer started another successful night by topping his qualifying group, which the likes of Hallett, Luke Dillon and Grant Anderson also did.
When the Heats arrived, Justin Peck, Jake Smith, Jordyn Charge and Macedo stepped up to claim victories.
Americans dominated the B-Mains with Peck and Aaron Reutzel being the winners.
However, fellow international Macedo was a big-name omission after a pre-race incident on the main straight between himself and Chris Johns which sent him to the back due to a second push start.
When the A-Main arrived it was all about Goodyer, who hit the lead at the start and was never troubled to the chequered flag.
There was plenty of jostling for position behind him however, with Hallett making a fast start to second as the likes of Dillon and Tate Frost found early trouble and dropped out of contention in the opening laps.
Dillon spun, while Frost found the fence hard at turn two which brought out the red lights.
When racing resumed McFadden, who started down in seventh, rose into the top four within seven laps.
By lap 16 the Hodges Motorsport machine surged to third when Matt Egel’s race came to an early finish.
