SPRINTCARS AND SPEEDCARS RETURN TO REDLINE RACEWAY
The return of Sprintcars and Speedcars will be the main attraction when racing resumes at Ballarat’s Redline Raceway this Saturday night, 17 February.
Thanks to the hard work of some dedicated volunteers, the track has been upgraded to comply with Speedway Australia’s three-star criteria, permitting Sprintcars to run at the venue.
The SRA Pro Sprintcar Series, which is for Sprintcars powered by LS V8 motors, has attracted a 16-strong field with front-runners likely to include current points leader Jordan Rae, along with Sam Wren, Dennis Jones and Josh Buckingham.
Rae holds an advantage of just 15 points over Wren, a member of the Belmont Speedway Drivers Club which operates the Redline Raceway venue.
Buckingham will be keen to redeem himself after crossing the line first in the A-Main at Moama’s Heartland Raceway last weekend, only to be disqualified post-race for a minimum weight breach.
Meanwhile, the Speedcars will compete for the prestigious Beasley Family Memorial as part of their Baretta Racing Chassis Southern Speedcar Tour.
Now into its 33rd year, the Beasley Family Memorial honours the life of Victoria’s legendary Beasley family, consisting of Arthur, Stud and Alf who have all made their mark on the Speedcar racing scene over a period spanning some 90 years.
The inaugural Beasley Family Memorial in 1992 was won by Darren Power, who with three victories (he also won in 1993 and 2006) is the equal-most successful driver in the history of the event alongside Mark Brown (winner in 2001, 2008 and 2010).
One of the drivers on this Saturday night’s entry list is Caleb Mills, who will be aiming to become the first third-generation racer to win the coveted prize, following in the footsteps of his grandfather John (winner in 1997) and father Travis (winner in 2012 and 2013).
Other likely front-runners on the entry list include Luke Storer, young gun Zoe Pearce and the experienced (in both speedway and circuit racing) Nick Parker.
After their previous appearance a fortnight ago, the Standard Saloons are back on the program with 12 nominations received at the time of writing with the likes of Patrick Walsh and brothers Austin and Lachie Chivers among the notables, while the program will be completed by the Sports Sedans and Unlimited Sedans.
