PERTH MOTORPLEX: KINGSHOTT IN CHAMPIONSHIP BOX SEAT
Maddington Toyota Sprintcars Series media release:
Despite stopping to avoid a spun lapped car while leading the feature race at the Perth Motorplex, Saturday night, March 16, Dayne Kingshott still has a commanding lead in the 2023-24 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series.
Heading into round 15, the TD Granny Flats and Modular Homes backed event, Kingshott had a 42-point advantage over defending series champion James Inglis.
While he had to drop back to position 14 on the restart for the second half of the feature race, he managed to charge back through the field to take fifth, one spot better than Inglis, to maintain the same 42-point advantage.
With three rounds remaining, that margin gives Kingshott the upper hand in his bid to claim his maiden series championship.
While Inglis is still second, he now has a massive buffer over third-placed Brad Maiolo who had a horror run on this night. He was had heavy contact with Trent Pigdon in a heat race – and then after starting from position 24 in the feature race, he was caught up with Jarrin Bielby in the feature race – ending his night on the infield.
Older brother Jamie Maiolo is still fourth in the standings after he started from position three in the latest round and crossing the line in eighth.
Kris Coyle, who took second after starting from position six, has consolidated his top five placing, holding down a handy buffer from Kaiden Manders who now occupies sixth.
Manders, who converted a position 18 start to a position four finish, swapped spots on the points ladder with Jason Kendrick who posted another DNF in the feature race.
Kendrick’s horror season continued, getting caught up with Manders in a heat race (in which they both restarted), before early contact with Aaron Chircop at the start of the feature race, and then contact with the stopped Brad Maiolo, which knocked out the left rear brake caliper.
Taylor Milling, who started from position 15 and finished ninth, is still in eighth, ahead of Jason Pryde who has moved up from position 10 to ninth, thanks to his seventh in the feature race.
Pryde had a good night, being quickest in his qualifying group, then won his heat race and the A Dash, to start on the front row with Kingshott.
His win, after starting from position four, has elevated Callum Williamson from 11th to 10th, edging out Andrew Priolo who dropped from ninth to 11th after posting a costly DNF.
Round 16 of the series will be held at Bunbury Speedway on Friday, March 29, with round 17 the following night at the Perth Motorplex as part of an Easter weekend double-header.
