McHUGH’S THRILLING TOOWOOMBA SPRINTCAR MAIN EVENT WIN
The 410 Sprintcar A-Main started with Lachlan McHugh and Brock Hallett, who earlier in the night set quickest time, on the front row at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway Saturday, November 2.
Hallett got the initial jump, McHugh fought back as they came out of turn two. Ryan Newton sat in third ahead of Luke Oldfield who was patiently sitting there ready to pounce. McHugh got underneath Hallett and levelled up a couple of times and finally made it work. Midfield Brodie Davis, Jy Corbet, Brent Kratzmann, Aaron Kelly and Harry Stewart were locked down in a battle of their own for minor positions, with Stewart, having just won the Speedcar feature prior to securing himself into the Spriuntcar he was running the high line as he made his way past Jy Corbet and began chasing Aaron Kelly and Brent Kratzmann.
Out in front McHugh held down the race lead for now as Hallett closed in and began to challenge for the lead as they approached lapped traffic. Hallett running the high line and winding up momentum was closing the gap quickly. While this was happening Oldfield had a big but unsuccessful look under Ryan Newton, before Nick Whell drove underneath him and into fourth. By this time Hallett made his way underneath McHugh with thirteen laps remaining. Hallett pulled away while Newton got under McHugh in a big hurry to take second leaving McHugh to defend third from a determined Whell. McHugh and Newton traded slide jobs with five laps to run, and this continued several times for the next few laps, until a caution two laps from home left a three-lap sprint to the chequered flag.
Hallett led as the race restarted with McHugh and Newton right there on this tail. McHugh went straight to the top as we watched in amazement at just how good McHugh was on the high line winding the car up throwing everything he could at it. Making the high line work perfectly, he got around Hallett with two laps to run. Hallett returned the favour on the bottom with one to run, they drag-raced across the line with Lachlan McHugh taking the win. Brock Hallett second and Ryan Newton third. Nicholas Whell and Luke Oldfield rounded out the top five. Nobody could have predicted the outcome of the race having the huge crowd on their feet and wanting more from the start. Thanks to Bill Mann and the Team from Queensland Speedway Spares for making this series possible.
Ryley Smith and Jacob Jolley led the 360-LS Sprintcars to the green flag for their feature race in Round Two of the Field the Label Series. Jolley led but was soon three wide with Smith and Brian Walsh as they negotiated over the race lead. Tyler Burnham and Kye Jensen battled close behind, racing two-wide as they looked for a way forward, while out in front Jolley and Smith began to open up a comfortable lead on the rest of the pack. The pair raced wheel-to-wheel, putting on a thrilling show for the Hi-Tec- Oils Speedway crowd, with Smith soon making his way under Jolley to take the lead. Jensen sat in third while Walsh and Burnham continued an exciting battle for minor positions as Luke Manttan joined the battle for a top five result. After a most entertaining feature race.
Sprintcars return to Hi-Tec -Oils Toowoomba Speedway on 30 November for Round Three of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship which includes the Field the Label 360-LS Sprintcar Series.
When the Modified Sedans rolled out for their feature race being Round Two of The Toowoomba Steering and Suspension Smackdown Series we all knew we were in for a treat and what a race it turned out to be. Round 1 winner Brodie Boss started on pole, Joel Burkley alongside him. Boss was quick to start Aidan Raymont settling into second. Without a lap completed there was a traffic jam in turn 4 and a restart to follow.
Burkley the better this time from the green light Nathan MacDonald looking very good losing no ground running four wide meanwhile Burkley out in front with 15 to run just as Brodie Boss backed it into the inside turn four wall. From the restart Burkley Boss, Raymont along with Shane and Nathan MacDonald were set to go. Burkley again gets away clean and the racing was on in earnest. MacDonald moves up to alongside Boss making slight contact unsettling both cars as the laps were winding down Shane MacDonald slips up the inside of Max Clark. Nathan MacDonald drives under Burkley who gets shuffled back to 5th. Meanwhile, MacDonald goes after Boss who just drove around the outside of both of them. Enter Aidan Raymont and straight into the lead with just a few laps remaining taking the win from Brodie Boss and Max Clark who started the feature race from position 13. In a race that had plenty of twists and turns. Hollywood could not have scripted it better in what could only be described as a very exciting and entertaining race.
