LISMORE SPEEDWAY: CLARK TAKES MR MODIFIED SERIES ROUND TWO

Australian Champion David Clark overcame several restarts to win a gruelling 40 lap second round of the Mr Modified Series at Castrol Lismore Speedway on Boxing night (December 26.
Mitch Randall drove a strong race into second placing at the finish while Mark Robinson was third.
For long term Lismore campaigner Ray Eggins it was a case of so close and yet so far in the 30-lap Wingless Sprint feature race as he celebrated his thirtieth anniversary in the sport.
The V8 Dirt Modified main event had a number of stoppages but, through it all, Clarke always got the better of the restarts and drove a superb race.
It was Dale Corbett who led the field away before a spin by Josh Rose forced a complete restart.
On the second attempt, Clarke got the advantage and raced to the lead.
As the contest unfolded, the battle was at the head of the field, particularly for the minor positions, as Rose forced his way into second position before another stoppage occurred.
Rose was out with thirty-two laps to go, while Mark Robinon got under Corbett and later settled into second position. Further back Seition Young battled with Michael Yardley while Brock Armstrong and Corbett were involved in a struggle for the minor placings. Randall was also making his presence felt as the race entered the latter stages. Clark continued to set a cracking pace at the head of the field and recorded the quickest lap time of the 40 lapper when he put down 14.718 seconds.
Then with two laps remaining, Randall passed Mark Robinson and claimed second as the top three. remained unchanged in the run to the chequered flag. The top ten finishing order was: David Clark, Mitch Randall, Mark Robinson, Brock Armstrong, Seiton Young, Michael Yardley, Scott Quirk, Jack Pezzutti, Mick Reid and Mick Turner.
Earlier in the night Clark recorded a heat victory, while other heat wins went to Dale Corbett, Brock Gardiner and Mark Robinson.
Randall had a busy night as he also competed in the Wingless Sprint events and ultimately took out the feature race. But for Ray Eggins the 30 lap main denoted his three decade anniversary in the sport and he led for 27 of those laps before he was passed for the lead. Third home in the Wingless Sprint feature was Connor Moreau. The Wingless B-main winner was Zeith Cox.
Tony Blanch as an impressive winner of the AMCA main event, while other feature race victors were Connor Reeves (RSA Street Stocks), Jackson Bailey (SSA Juniors – Top Stars), Leeroy Preston (SSA Juniors (New Stars).
