SPEEDCARS BACK AT TOOWOOMBA – JANUARY 12
Media release by: Barry Lane
The speedcars are back at the Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on Sunday January 12 for the penultimate round of the GSA Advanced Machining Ultimate Speedcar Championship.
Unfortunately, the second round was lost to rain.
Seventeen cars have nominated and at least half of them have a good chance of collecting the win and the valuable points. Harry Stewart is currently top of the points but will miss Sunday night as he is racing in the USA at the famed Chili Bowl in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
After Rusty Whittaker’s impressive run at the Queensland Championship a couple of weeks ago he would have to be a favourite alongside Dyaln Menz who finished just behind him. Menz and Scot Doyle have been racing in South Australia and Victoria contesting the Pro Speedcar Week but will be back for Sunday . Although not collecting any round wins, they flew the flag well for Queensland.
Casey O’Connell missed the title meeting but will be back on Sunday and on form should also be vying for a win. He is one of those drivers who can find the bit of extra speed when he needs it.
Brent Aprile made his first appearance of the season on title night and had some strong
performances. With a Chev now under the bonnet he believes he now has the equipment to run with the best.
Tom Clauss has been there or thereabouts this season and his dices with Menz and Scott Farmer on title night were great to watch. He has confidence in his ability to get the job done so a podium finish is a definite probability.
After winning the feature on the opening night of the season Scott Farmer has run up front most nights but hasn’t been able to convert these performances into another win. He fought hard for his fourth place in the Queensland Championship but was disappointed he didn’t finish higher. He will be looking to be first to collect the chequered flag.
An impressive line-up and the potential to produce another race with plenty of slide jobs and great action. See you Sunday night at Hi-Tec-Oils Toowoomba Speedway.
