WHAT BETTER WAY TO START A SEASON?
POOLE promoter Dan Ford says an Easter clash with rivals Oxford in the BSN Series is the perfect way to start the 2025 season.
The Pirates completed the Treble at Cab Direct Championship level last season, defeating the Cheetahs in both league and Cup Finals in a series of high-profile clashes.
Now the sides will resume acquaintances early in the new campaign as they meet at Cowley on Wednesday April 16 before the opening of proceedings at Wimborne Road on Good Friday (April 18) as Poole look to win the BSN Series for a third season on the trot.
Ford said: “I can’t think of a better way to spend Good Friday than hosting Oxford.
“They’ll be eager to make a statement after our thrilling battles last year, and we’re hoping for a bumper holiday crowd to kick off the season in true derby style.”

SCUNTHORPE are counting down to an exciting opening to 2025 when racing at Cab Direct Championship level gets underway in April.
The Scorpions will host the prestigious League Riders’ Championship event in the first meeting of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway on April 6.
Meanwhile Good Friday (April 18) sees them host Redcar in the BSN Series, with both meetings having 3pm starts, and it is hoped to add an NDL clash to the latter as a double-header.
Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “This year is almost guaranteed to be a very exciting year of speedway at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
“We are highly honoured to be staging the Championship League Riders’ Championship at Scunthorpe on Sunday, April 6. It follows a day after the Championship Pairs at Workington, and hopefully travelling fans will make a weekend of it and attend both meetings.
“Beyond that, the Scorpions will host Redcar Bears on Good Friday, and that is always a good fixture, with a number of fans making the trip from Teesside to join our own faithful supporters on the terraces.
“We’ve qualified for the Cab Direct Championship play-offs for the last two years and that will again be a major aim, although this time we want to win them, while we’d also love to win back the MAXiCab Knockout Cup that we won in such memorable style at Poole in 2023.”

LEICESTER duo Max Fricke and Ryan Douglas have both avoided major injury despite Australian Championship setbacks.
Douglas was forced to miss the series after a motocross training accident, whilst club captain Fricke crashed out of Round 2 in Mildura and subsequently missed the finale in Albury-Wodonga.
However, both riders are set to be fully fit well before the start of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership season in the UK.
Lions manager Stewart Dickson said: “I keep in touch with all my riders over the winter just to make sure they’re okay, and both lads will be fine for the start of the season.
“Max hurt some muscles around his knee when he crashed, but it just needs a few weeks of rest and then he’ll be ready to go.
“Dougy was actually back on a bike on Wednesday having a practice skid, and there were no ill effects, so he’s now fit to ride and he’s feeling fine and looking forward to the season.”

BIRMINGHAM boss Chris Adams has revealed the club are in advanced talks with a third heat-leader.
The Brummies have already announced five members of their side including Polish star Tobiasz Musielak and experienced Slovenian racer Matej Zagar in the upper order of a new-look ROWE Motor Oil Premiership line-up.
Said Adams: “All over the seasonal period we have been working hard to try and sort out our final signings.
“I can confirm that before Christmas we were speaking to three riders that I feel could fill that role as a No.3 and who I believe could also challenge for the No.1 spot.
“But we are now in the final stages of negotiations with a third heat-leader and I’m hoping we can get pen to paper in the next week or so and an announcement by the end of January, if not sooner.”
