DWSP ENDS REGULAR BRISBANE SPEEDWAY INVOLVEMENT
Darcy Ward Speedway Promotions will no longer conduct regular fixtures at Mick Doohan Raceway (North Brisbane Speedway).
Ward and his promotional company have been the driving force behind a number of very successful fixtures at the venue in recent years that included David Tapp’s Power Productions’ December 2023 Centurians two night show and rounds of the Australian Solo Championship.
DWSP issue the following statement in explanation of its full time involvement termination and also the future of club events at the circuit.
Due to new guidelines out of our control, DWSP will no longer operate club level speedway events at Mick Doohan Raceway.
This decision includes the cancellation of the 2x MQ series for the year, specifically the BRTS DW Speedway Series.
It has been a pleasure to provide a platform where riders of all levels and classes could participate and enjoy the sport, plus our bigger events we have done. Many of the DWSP crew bring invaluable speedway knowledge and experience, which has been shared with riders over the years. We take pride in knowing that many riders have benefited from our events, and the entire crew, along with myself, are proud of what we’ve achieved together.
Moving forward, we have been granted the option by NBJMCC to submit proposals for a limited number of open meeting dates. However, the costs associated with running events at Mick Doohan Raceway—such as rent, lighting, toilets, permit fees for open events and other expenses—make this a challenging prospect. As a result, we have not made a decision about the future of DWSP at this venue and currently have no dates set.
On a positive note, we are exploring the possibility of bringing the DW Invitational to other venues across Australia, offering something new and exciting. Mick Doohan Raceway is not entirely off the table as this is our home track and we still want to put something on there. We will reassess our options after upcoming event.
For now, I’m excited about this weekend’s meeting, and I look forward to seeing everyone there.
