FIM SPEEDWAY: KURTZ’S SPARTA SURPRISE
Aussie racer Brady Kurtz admits he was “a little bit shocked” after being offered a dream opportunity by Polish giants Wroclaw and insisted “I am planning on not letting them down.”
Kurtz enjoyed an unforgettable 2024 season, winning the FIM SGP Challenge to book his place in the Speedway GP line-up for the first time. He also led Rybnik to Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga glory and promotion to the PGE Ekstraliga, as well as winning the Rowe Motor Oil Premiership with British side Belle Vue.
The Cowra-born star’s heroics have earned him a coveted call-up from last year’s PGE Ekstraliga runners-up Wroclaw as Kurtz steps into the team in place of departing club legend Tai Woffinden.
He joins the likes of Speedway GP rival Dan Bewley, 2021 Speedway GP World Champion Artem Laguta, local hero Maciej Janowski and former SGP2 star Bartlomiej Kowalski at the Olympic Stadium.
It’s a chance Kurtz’s admits was unexpected, but it’s one he is determined to take with both hands.
He said: “It’s pretty cool. I was a little bit shocked when they called me. I don’t think I ever thought I would say, ‘I am going to race for Wroclaw.’ It’s not really anything I had considered before.
“When they called me, straight away I knew it was the best choice. There was no question about it. I was super excited and I think it is the best club for sure. That’s why I chose them, and I am really looking forward to starting there.
“I think they have everything in order there. The club is run so well. I have got my chance at the best club, and I am planning on not letting them down.”
Kurtz’s arrival at the home of the FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw means he will race three Speedway GPs on his club tracks this year, with a double-header taking place in Manchester. In addition, he raced for FIM Speedway GP of Sweden – Malilla host club Dackarna in 2024.
“I am quite happy with the GP tracks, to be fair,” he said. “I think I have ridden on almost all of them quite a lot. I think I am in a super good position. I am looking forward to it. I will take it one GP at a time and we will see what happens.”
