MADDINGTON TOYOTA SPRINTCAR SERIES
SUNDAY, MARCH 16
Callum Williamson claimed the Asphalt Recyclers Australia Rd 21 of the 2024-25 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, March 15.
He started from position three in the final and crossed the line ahead of defending series champion and points leader Dayne Kingshott, who started from p2, and Kaiden Manders, who started from p9.
The win was not enough for Williamson to peg back a sizeable gap on Kingshott, heading into the series finale – at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday, March 29.
Williamson started the show by being second quickest in his qualifying group and converting a p3 to p1 win in his heat race.
Kingshott was fastest in his qualifying group and after starting p4, when he finished second in his heat.
Manders was second in his qualifying group and unfortunately he dropped down to sixth in his heat race after starting from p3.
Taylor Milling was the quickest overall in qualifying, setting the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time award.
Michael Keen won the first heat race from Ryan Lancaster and Chad Pittard – in a race that was marred by contact between Daniel Hartigan and Jason Kendrick – the latter being winded from a big series of rolls.
The team managed to rebuild the W11 for him to start at the back of the B Main and qualify 24th for the feature race.
Queenslander Ryan Newton, back in the Monte Motorsport W17, won the second heat from Kingshott and last-round winner Brad Maiolo.
Williamson won the final heat from Kris Coyle and Jack Williamson.
Maiolo was fourth in the feature race, after starting from p8, ahead of Keen who started on pole and took fifth.
Andrew Priolo moved up five spots to claim sixth, while Lancaster was seventh after starting from p6.
Jack Williamson was eighth, from p7, ahead of AJ Nash in the family-owned W51 who was ninth, a big mover from p17.
Jason Pryde rounded out the top 10 after starting from p22, winning this round’s Kincrome Hard Charger award.
Newton, who was involved in an early crash, after starting p4, dropped back to p18 and crossed the line in 11th, ahead of Aaron Chircop in 12th, up six spots, Hartigan in 13th, also up six spots, Pittard, Kyle Francis, Cameron McKenzie and Brooke Newson.
Coyle was a non-finisher as was Milling who rode a wheel on a late restart and crashed into the pit exit game.
Inglis, Harrison Peet, Kendrick and Golding were also non-finishers.
