FIM SPEEDWAY: A NEW PERSPECTIVE FOR BRENNAN
Speedway GP media release.
Great Britain racer Tom Brennan admits spending the off-season in Australia “showed me a different way of how to approach my speedway” after racing to victory at the Ben Fund Bonanza in Oxford on Sunday.
Brennan topped the podium ahead of Poland’s Tobiasz Musielak, Speedway GP star Fredrik Lindgren in third and fourth-placed Oxford ace Charles Wright who crashed in the closing stages of the final.
The double FIM Speedway of Nations World Champion looked in red-hot form at one of British speedway’s annual curtain-raisers, which is staged in aid of the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund – a charity that supports riders temporarily and permanently sidelined by racing injuries.
Brennan spent part of the European winter racing and practicing Down Under as he bids to continue his progress in 2025.
While the trip offered him plenty of bike time, he admits the experience gave him a different perspective on the sport away from the pressure of the top European leagues.
He said: “It was racing, but in a very different light. It showed me a different way of how to approach my speedway, be calm and be focused, but also have a bit of fun and not just be so serious all the time. There is a time and a place to be serious. If I am doing a high-level meeting, I have to be switched on and serious. But sometimes with the league racing or an open meeting, you can take it a little bit differently and I think I have learned that.”
Asked his goals for 2025, Brennan replied: “There isn’t anything too specific. It’s just trying to get up that ladder, make steps up and keep on that upward spiral. As long as I am doing that and progressing in the sport, no matter how fast that is, I don’t really mind. I am happy – as long as I am improving and not going stale.”
Ipswich racer Brennan was delighted to start his 2025 season with victory in the Ben Fund Bonanza.
He said: “This is such a good cause for everybody involved. I am really excited and really happy for everybody involved with the Ben Fund. These guys go really unnoticed, but the kind of funds they supply for us are above and beyond. I never say no to this meeting, and it’s even better to come away with the win.
“It was tough. The track went wet and then dry. We had to kind of chase the track. But the conditions were good. Oxford is always really well prepared. Tremendous applause to them.”
