Callum Williamson claimed the final bout of the 2024-25 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, March 29, from Dayne Kingshott and Daniel Harding.
However it was Kingshott who won the series championship, claiming back-to-back crowns for Krikke Motorsport after a big 22 rounds of competition in what was the best season of Sprintcar racing to date in Western Australia.
In the feature race, Williamson started on the outside of Taylor Milling on the front row for the final 30-lapper for the season.
Unfortunately Milling’s night was over in the first turn, hitting the fence hard for a big crash in the W25.
The incident also put Jaydee Dack out of the show, while Kris Coyle was involved, and after going to the infield work area, was able to resume from the rear of the field.
Not long after Brooke Newson spun on the second lap for another caution period, Kingshott moved to second, while Andrew Priolo, originally started ninth, was up to fourth.
Rookie Harrison Peet was the next to spin and activate another caution period, with 10 laps in the books.
Kingshott, who by this stage knew he had enough points to wrap up the series championship, was not bothered with points racing and asked the question of Williamson for the lead on the restart, however his rival was up to the challenge.
Harding got by Brad Maiolo for third not long later as the W77 then started to slip back.
With a handful of laps remaining Kingshott pushed a little too hard in turn one, belting the concrete fence, but was able to maintain his speed and position in the run to the checkers – sealing the series championship.
Williamson’s win was on the back of being third quickest in his qualifying group, and wins in his heat race and the B Dash.
Kingshott was quickest in his qualifying group, then moved from fourth second in his heat race, and took second in the B Dash.
Harding was the quickest of all cars in qualifying, setting the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time.
He then won his heat race and was second in the A Dash.
AJ Nash, who started from P8, had one of his best drives of the season, taking fourth in the Colonial Motorsport W9.
Priolo, who started from P9, took fifth, ahead of Aaron Chircop who started from p14 and finished eighth, in an underpowered 360ci motor.
Jason Pryde was seventh (from p7), Brad Maiolo was 8th (from p5), Kris Coyle was 9th (originally from p10 but then came from the rear of the field) to be the Kincrome Hard Charger for the round.
James Inglis rounded out the top 10 (from p15), Ryan Farrell, in his first open competition race in years, was 11th (from p16), from Daniel Hartigan, Michael Keen, Shaun Bradford, Chad Pittard, Michael Keen, Myles Bolger, Mikey Green and Harrison Peet.
The first heat race of the night was marred by a big moment involving Kaiden Manders and Ryan Lancaster, with both out for the night.
For Manders it was a bitter blow, dropping from third to fourth overall in the series points.
Jason Kendrick, who had to change an engine after qualifying on seven cylinders, passed a handful of cars in his race from the rear before suffering more engine issues and parking the W11 for the night in the third heat.
One of the races of the night was in the Midpack Dash, with Chircop trading lines with Inglis and Farrell, in an entertaining race.
Kingshott claimed the series from Williamson, while Milling, despite crashing out, and suffering a back injury, had enough to move to third overall, at the expense of Manders.
Priolo held down fifth, while Coyle moved from seventh to sixth, Maiolo from eighth to seventh, as Kendrick dropped from sixth to eighth.
Daniel Harding and Michael Keen maintained their spots in the top 10.
