The driver of the Krikke Motorsport W2 claimed the time-honoured event at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, November 18, from Kris Coyle, Merger (Motorsport W79) and Andrew Priolo, (AP Motorsport W8.)
The 40-lap feature race, with an infield pit stop, that was called at lap 15, was Round Three of the 2023-24 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series and for Kingshott it was his second win in three outings.
It continues his strong start to the season where he was runner up in the other result.
Kingshott started the feature race from p6 and was up to fourth within a lap, nestled in behind James Inglis, who started on the front row, Coyle, who started from p4 and Priolo who also started on the front row.
He reached second with 10 laps in the books, behind Inglis and in front of Coyle, and at this stage Kaiden Manders, who started p3, was fourth, with Priolo back in fifth.
A lap later Inglis closed in on Jamie Maiolo in lapped traffic and spun around, resuming his battle from the rear.
This elevated Kingshott to the lead for the restart which only lasted a couple of seconds after a few cars came together and Jason Pryde and
Kye Scroop went to the rear.
The race went five more laps before the infield pit stop was called.
As part of the event Kingshott was given the option by event sponsor Frank Scardifield, Scardifields Smash Repairs, to take up the fan challenge and resume from the third row, with an extra $7500 being dangled in front of him should be race back through and claim the win.
Kingshott declined, saying he had been in that situation before and he was determined to stay out in front of the pack.
At the 20-lap mark the red lights were activated when Taylor Milling rode out a big crash in pits bend.
Ten laps later and Ryan Lancaster’s right rear tyre came off and Kingshott, who was right behind him, was lucky to avoid the bouncing tyre.
Coyle on the other hand was not and he hit it with the right side of the car, heavily pushing in the right top wing panel.
Despite all this Kingshott was able to maintain his pace and take the win, with the margin back to second being 1.215 of a second.
For Coyle it was a solid result after being in similar positions in the first two rounds, only to not finish races.
Earlier in the night he won his heat and took a second in the B Dash.
Priolo was finally able to collect some big points after a DNF in round one and a 10th in round two.
He was quickest in his qualifying group and despite this big result, the team had a scheduled engine change before the heat races.
Priolo was third in his heat race and then won the A Dash to start from pole.
All top three drivers played their Joker cards on the night and doubled their feature race points.
This event was the first of five nominated shows where drivers can use their Joker card,
New Zealander Michael Pickens, who was driving the Williamson Motorsport W3 for Callum Williamson, was fourth, a big effort after starting from p16.
He was up to ninth at the pitstop and continued to push forward in the second half.
Jason Kendrick (who also played his Joker), who started from p11, was up to 8th at the break before taking fifth in the end.
Inglis (who played his Joker) recovered from his early-race spin to take 6th, while Mitchell Wormall was 7th after starting from 14th, Manders (who played his Joker), took 8th after starting from p3, Brad Maiolo (played his Joker) was 9th after coming from p18 and Jaydee Dack rounded out the top 10 after starting from 12.
Jamie Maiolo was 11th (from p19), Ken Sartori 12th (from p17), AJ Nash 13th (from p20), Trent Pigdon 14th (from p5), Jason Pryde 15th (from p13), Matthew Cross 16th (from p23), Brock Kenny 17th (from p21) and Kyle Francis 18th (from p24).
The fourth round of the series, the WA Sprintcar Championship, will be held at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday, December 2.
