OXFORD’S NEW BRITISH SPEEDWAY CHAPTER
OXFORD manager Peter Schroeck is relishing the chance to lead the club into an historic campaign – and is urging the local community to continue their remarkable response.
The Cowley outfit made a stunning return to racing in 2022 after a long battle to bring sport back to the stadium, and they will now compete at all three levels this year, including running a top-flight team for the first time since 2007.
Schroeck said: “It’s a hugely exciting time to be an Oxford Speedway fan. We’re on the cusp of the busiest campaign in the club’s history – and that’s all thanks to the outstanding support we’ve received from our fans.
“Speedway has often been criticised for standing still and not doing enough to engage new audiences. Our approach at Oxford Speedway is quite the opposite, and we’re committed to playing an active role in the community to build awareness, raise the sport’s profile and generate new fans.
“We’re doing everything within our resource to make the entire operation a success both on and off track. Now we’re calling on speedway enthusiasts across the county and its surrounds to join this special journey.”
The newly formed Oxford Spires team go into action for the first time next Thursday (March 14) when they host fellow Premiership newcomers Birmingham.

BELLE Vue have added former British Champion Chris Harris to a star-studded line-up for the Peter Craven Memorial on March 18.
Harris is a former winner of the prestige event, having triumphed at the Aces’ previous Kirkmanshulme Lane home in 2010, and he is building up to another big season which will see him represent Oxford and Glasgow in the UK.
The full field for Belle Vue’s flagship meeting is now just one rider away from completion and already features the likes of Jason Doyle, Dan Bewley, Fredrik Lindgren, Max Fricke, Maciej Janowski and Robert Lambert.
CEO Mark Lemon said: “Chris Harris is a quality rider who, with each season, has been getting stronger and stronger, be it on the shale or on the grass.
“There’s no denying he’s a firm favourite with supporters across the UK, and we’re certainly excited to have him back at the National Speedway Stadium for our opening meeting.
“Chris has plenty to offer in this meeting. He knows what it takes to win, he’s got a wealth of knowledge and track craft at his disposal so let’s see if it’s enough to carry him to victory.”
