BANDITS END WINLESS RUN AGAINST TIGERS
BERWICK finally ended their Glasgow hoodoo with a 48-42 win over the Tigers in their BSN Series opener on Saturday.
The Bandits had lost their last 13 matches against the Scottish side but held on for victory in an exciting Shielfield Park clash which went down to a last heat decider.
A tactical substitute win for Chris Harris in the penultimate race helped reduce the gap to four points, but Berwick No.1 Lewis Kerr got the better of Harris for the third time in the meeting in Heat 15, with Rory Schlein adding third place ahead of Leon Flint.
Kerr scored 13+1 for the Bandits, dropping his only point to Flint in Heat 10, whilst Harris racked up 15 from six rides for the Tigers who were a six-rider outfit after reserve Lee Complin provided a non-negative result to an anti-doping test.
Harris said: “We battled hard but it wasn’t quite good enough on the night.
“There were promising signs. It was tough to lose our winning streak here but that was always going to happen one day I suppose.
“But there’s lots of potential. Young James Pearson had a couple of good rides and the same for Ace Pijper. There’s a few teething problems but we can iron them out before next week.”

LEICESTER open their home WSRA National Development League season today (Sunday, 3pm) against an Edinburgh side with plenty of track knowledge.
The Lion Cubs made a perfect start to the season with a 49-38 win at Belle Vue on Good Friday, and are back to their regular septet against the Monarchs Academy as Max James returns to the side.
The visitors’ top two of Connor Coles and Max Perry are both recent Lion Cubs riders, as the Armadale side race for the first time this season.
Leicester manager Dave Howard said: “It was unfortunate that we couldn’t have a practice on the press and practice day due to the weather.
“But I’m sure Joe (Thompson) will be giving the riders some hints and tips before Sunday, and with the way everyone rode at Belle Vue we will be giving it all for our second win of the season.”
