A GRAND (PRIX) ADDITION

KING’S Lynn newcomer and Grand Prix star Jan Kvech has been added to the line-up for the Ben Fund Bonanza at Workington on Sunday July 14.
Kvech has made a positive impression in UK speedway since joining the Stars, and organisers of the big fund-raiser are delighted to have secured his participation.

SRBF Chairman Paul Ackroyd said: “I went to Birmingham last week to check whether Freddie Lindgren was still available for the re-staging, but unfortunately he can’t do it.
“However, Jan Kvech quickly offered to take up the position! I’ve seen his early meetings in the UK at King’s Lynn and Birmingham and also last weekend’s Grand Prix where he did well.
“I’ve been impressed each time. He’s a lovely lad to talk to also.”
Meanwhile two further top-class performers have joined the field, namely Charles Wright and Adam Ellis, both former British Champions who have agreed to come in at short notice.

Ackroyd commented: “We are very happy with the field we have, including two flamboyant members of Team USA as well. I’m sure there will be plenty of eyes on them.”
A sad reminder of the importance of the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund arrived on Monday night with the injuries sustained by Tate Zischke at Belle Vue.
The young Aussie has taken the UK by storm this year and had also agreed to ride in the Bonanza prior to his accident. Everyone associated with the SRBF sends him every good wish for a speedy recovery.

(SPEEDWAY 2)

EDINBURGH manager John Campbell pulled no punches after his side went down to a 54-34 defeat at Plymouth in the Cab Direct Championship on Tuesday.
Campbell had targeted the trip to the Coliseum for an away win, but the Monarchs fell well short after being just two points down after Heat 7 as they conceded a run of three successive 5-1s.

Dan Thompson top-scored for the Gladiators with 11+1 and Nico Covatti made a successful comeback with 11, whilst Josh Pickering provided the bulk of the resistance for the visitors with 14 from six rides, including a new track record and some spectacular blasts from the back in the second half of the meeting.
Campbell said: “I came here believing we had a very good chance of the win and the aggregate point, and to be so heavily beaten simply isn’t good enough.

“Okay, the track at the start of the meeting is unsettling, the lack of starting gates is unsettling, but we actually started okay – then the way we were brushed aside was embarrassing.
“Without Josh and just behind him Lasse (Fredriksen) it would have been even more embarrassing.”

POOLE look to close in on the top of the Cab Direct Championship table when they host Edinburgh at Wimborne Road tonight (Wednesday).
The Pirates are currently fourth but have matches in hand on the teams above them, and they are also 100 per cent at home this season.

However, the Monarchs performed well on their previous trip to Dorset in the Cab Direct KO Cup, going down by just nine points, and they are seeking a rapid improvement after Tuesday’s heavy defeat at Plymouth.
Poole welcome Tobias Thomsen back from injury but Vinnie Foord is out with a fractured wrist so Max Perry – the rider replaced by Foord recently – gets another chance to impress.

Pirates promoter Dan Ford said: “Just like any meeting in the Cab Direct Championship we really need to produce the right result, and that means giving ourselves a healthy lead to assist in the quest for the aggregate point.
“We know first-hand what Edinburgh are capable of, and ideally we would have had our full team together for this one, but that is not to be the case.  
“We are calling on Max Perry for this meeting and I am sure that he will be relishing the opportunity to show us more of the stuff that we saw last Wednesday.”
