WOFFINDEN WANTS TO RACE AT CARDIFF
Great Britain icon Tai Woffinden says he is giving his all to make a racing return at the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff on August 17, insisting “I’ll do everything to make it happen.”
Woffinden broke his elbow in four places when he crashed in heat eight of the ISS FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Gorzow on June 29 – forcing him to undergo surgery.
The Scunthorpe-born star is battling hard to make a comeback for Britain’s biggest indoor motorsport event at Principality Stadium and join Speedway GP rivals Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley on the track, as well as wild card Tom Brennan.
With five Speedway GP rounds remaining, and his British club Sheffield and Polish side Wroclaw both in play-off contention in their respective leagues, Woffinden is determined to step up his recovery and complete the 2024 season – starting with a huge night in Cardiff.
He told Speedway Star magazine: “You know me, I’ll never stop fighting. I want to race, and I believe I can get there. There is improvement day by-day but whether that will be sufficient by Cardiff, I just can’t predict that at this moment. But I’ll do everything to make it happen.
“Obviously it has been a pretty rough year. There have been a lot of setbacks one way or another. But I’m never a quitter. People should know that by now. There’s still lots of racing to be done. The hunger and desire are still there.
“I’ve got my brilliant clubs at Wroclaw and Sheffield. I really want to get fit and racing for them again. I was pretty dialled-in at Gorzow before the crash. But we will go again the next time I’m fit. Hopefully Cardiff, if not Wroclaw.”
Woffinden will be appearing in Cardiff, regardless of whether or not he takes to the track. He will be hosting the official British GP After-Party supported by Monster Energy at Walkabout after the on-track action has finished.
Having performed at DJ set after the Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw in May, he can’t wait to celebrate with the fans in Cardiff.
He added: “Every person that comes in will get an official Monster Energy lanyard and pass. We had an awesome night in Explosion in Warsaw after that GP. I expect it to go off the same way in Cardiff.
“There is always a special vibe in Cardiff, so it’s cool to do something a bit extra. The tickets are selling well – the early bird tickets sold out in three hours. Now the second release tickets are available and also moving quickly. We’ve taken over Walkabout to make it happen. Let’s get wild.”
