MICHELSEN WINNING WROCLAW FITNESS FIGHT
European Champion Mikkel Michelsen has declared himself fit for the DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw this Saturday night, August 31.
Michelsen crashed out of heat 13 at round three of the Speedway European Championship in Gustrow, Germany last Saturday, and has been undergoing intense treatment in a bid to recover.
The Dane is currently fifth in the Speedway GP World Championship on 87 points – 24 behind leader Bartosz Zmarzlik, but just three short of second-placed Robert Lambert, who has 90 points, in an incredibly tight rostrum race. Fredrik Lindgren is in third spot on 88 and fourth-placed Jack Holder is tied on 87 with Michelsen.
Posting on Facebook on Thursday, the Trans MF FIM Speedway GP of Germany – Landshut winner updated fans on his condition as he gets ready for an intense period of three Speedway GPs in as many weekends as rounds in Riga (September 7) and Vojens (September 14) follow this Saturday’s action in Wroclaw.
He wrote: “Been a little quiet since last Saturday. There’s been a lot of stuff happening, hospital visits and treatment. All scans have come back with no breaks, which is positive, but I’ve sustained a bleeding to my upper thigh, which we have been working overtime on to get under control as well as other small injuries.
“Luckily, we’re headed towards the finish line and I’m looking forward to the GP in Wroclaw this weekend. Thank you to the people around me for dropping everything in their hands to get me ready for the weekend, my doctors, physio team, manager and sponsors for the support!”
