PIRATES ON THE CHARGE
POOLE look set to retain the BSN Series trophy after a stunning performance to win the first leg of the Final 53-37 at Scunthorpe.
Stand-in captain Zach Cook raced to a 15-point maximum for the Pirates at the Eddie Wright Raceway, and No.1 Richard Lawson was also unbeaten by an opponent with 14+1.
Tom Brennan added double figures with 10+1 as the rampant visitors limited the Scorpions to just two race wins on their own circuit.
Those came from impressive reserve Luke Harrison, who scored 12 from six rides, whilst Connor Mountain was next best for the hosts with 8+1. The second leg takes place at Wimborne Road on Wednesday.
Cook said: “I just went out there and did what I could do and gave it everything, and it was a really good night personally, and obviously all the team did an awesome job as well and it leaves us with a good lead for Wednesday.
“I had plenty of speed in the bikes and that always helps, and you can put it in places where you wouldn’t normally and it makes life a lot easier.”
Scorpions boss David Howe said: “We’ve got to give credit where credit’s due, Poole are formidable opposition, and as a team we’ve kind of run out of steam in the last few weeks.
“We’ve come up against the best teams in the league consistently, and we’ve just fallen short, there’s no hiding from that fact.”

LEICESTER and Belle Vue will make another attempt to resolve the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership title on Thursday (October 3).
The teams have once again been frustrated by bad weather in the East Midlands with an early call taken on Sunday to postpone the decider as rain is forecast throughout the day.
After a previous call-off last week, they will hope it is third time lucky on Thursday with the Aces travelling with an 18-point advantage from the first leg of the Grand Final.

BELLE Vue CEO Mark Lemon has paid tribute to the club’s directors and partners after the Manchester venue was confirmed on next season’s Grand Prix calendar.
The NSS has hosted the FIM Speedway of Nations Final on two occasions, including this year when GB duo Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley raced to victory, and the duo kicked on from that to secure second and fourth places overall in the individual series.
It means both are confirmed starters for 2025, with the GP coming to Manchester on June 14, and Lemon says securing the event sums up the determination to bring top meetings to the track.
He said: “The prospect of the likes of the present-day superstars like five-times World Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, Brits Dan Bewley and Robert Lambert, Freddie Lindgren and Martin Vaculik all battling it out at the NSS will be a mouthwatering spectacle for every speedway fan across the globe.
“We are naturally delighted to work closely with Warner Bros. Discovery Sports and Manchester City Council to bring this event to the UK for speedway fans.
“We are very fortunate to have fabulous directors in Tony Rice and Robin Southwell who constantly strive to bring the best to the club and Manchester.
“The task is to now make this the most special occasion we possibly can, and it is ready to be one of the outstanding occasions of the 2025 speedway season.”
