GILLMAN SPEEDWAY: BOWES FAMILY SIDECAR CUP SATURDAY FEBRUARY 8
Following Rohan Tungate’s thrilling victory over Jaimon Lidsey in the FIM Oceania Solo Championship at the last Gillman Speedway meeting, Sidecars now take over the limelight for the remainder of the season, starting this Saturday night (8 February) with the Bowes Family Sidecar Cup at the venue.
The meeting will be the fifth annual Bowes Family Sidecar Cup and spectators are guaranteed to see new winners with none of the previous titleholders competing.
In their absence, Kym Menadue/Shane Dolan have the chance to go one better than last season when they finished second. Menadue, with former passenger Eric Melton, also finished second in the inaugural event in 2021, so one might think he is overdue for the win, but it won’t be a simple process with some strong opposition – in particular from Shepparton’s Malcolm German, with local passenger Cameron White, and Shane Rudloff and Damian Egan.
Amongst the other competitors, Kane Golding/Hayden Kuchel, Brian Silvy/Glen Zaworski, Adam Pascoe/Mark-John Papastamatis, Aaron Silvy/Jaron Silvy, Byron Mordaunt/Jarrad Katzorke and Thomas Adams/Campbell Stafford are all capable of beating anyone in the line-up, it is just a matter if they can do it consistently throughout the night to get into the all-important final. Like Menadue, the Silvy brothers were also finalists in the inaugural event, while Golding is a former SA number two.
As well as competing for the Bowes Family Cup, the riders are also chasing points for the season pointscore (on selected meetings) and with the withdrawal of leaders Josh Pascoe/Greg Black yesterday (with illness), Menadue and Brian Silvy both have the chance to go to the top of the leader board with a good showing.
The meeting is also the last chance to get track time at Gillman before the upcoming South Australian Championship.
The support events are Flat Track Solos, Classic Solos and Sidecars, and 125cc Junior Solos.
Gates open at 4pm and racing starts at 7pm.
For those that can’t attend, the meeting will be live streamed through the website link [https://www.spacequakesports.com/ppv] for a cost of $25. As always this is the only official live streaming link. Any other links touted on Facebook sites are scams and should be ignored.
