MADDINGTON TOYOTA SPRINTCAR SERIES
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2025
The James McFadden juggernaut continued in round 15 of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series at the Perth Motorplex on Friday night, Febraury 7.
In the first of the two-night show for the Barbagallo Australian Mr Sprintcar Nationals, McFadden won the 30-lap feature race from Daniel Harding and Kaiden Manders.
McFadden’s win was his first with the A1 sticker on the Brady Motorsport entry, fresh from winning the Australian Sprintcar Championship in South Australia last week – and after taking out the Warrnambool Classic in Victoria the previous week.
McFadden started outside polesitter Kaiden Manders on the front row for the main event and after threatening to make a move in heavy lapped traffic, he struck a telling blow on lap 17 – and after that was never headed in the run to the checkers.
The race only had just over a lap remaining when Kerry Madsen activated the only caution period in the race, parking the Diamond Bay Motorsport 26 in pits bend with a flat right rear tyre. This was only a blip in McFadden’s run to the finish line.
He started and finished fourth in his heat race after earlier being the quickest qualifier in his group and then won the B Dash. Manders won the A Dash after also winning his heat race.
Harding, who started from p4, was started p2 in his heat race which he won, putting him off pole for the B Dash, where he followed McFadden across the line, taking second.
Both Callum Williamson and New Zealander Michael Pickens had Alf Barbagallo tribute cars, running different interpretations of the famous 77 that raced back at Claremont Speedway for many years.
Former Aussie champion Marcus Dumesny, who started from position five, took fourth ahead of Williamson who started from p6 and was running second when the caution lights came on.
He was relegated two spots for an earlier infringement and finished fifth.
Queenslander Luke Oldfield was sixth (from p7), ahead of Brad Maiolo in seventh (from p14), Dayne Kingshott in eighth (from p16), Jason Kendrick in ninth (from p8) and Queenslander/former Aussie champ Lachlan McHugh in 10th (from p3).
Another former champion in Jock Goodyer was 11th (from p18), from Kris Coyle in 12th (from p13), American Cory Elaison in 13th (from p28), Queenslander Ryan Newton in 14th (from p26), Taylor Milling in 15th (from p10), Jason Pryde in 16th (from p11), Michael Keen in 17th (from p21), Andrew Priolo in 18th (from p15), AJ Nash in 19th (from p27), Jack Williamson in 20th (from p25), Aaron Chircop in 22nd (from p19), Jaydee Dack in 23rd (from p24) and Daniel Golding in 24th (from p22).
Non finishers were Queenslander Dylan Menz, Madsen, Tim King and Pickens.
Racing returns to the Perth Motorplex tonight for night two of the Barbagallo Australian Mr Sprintcar Nationals, with the feature race winner to pocket $40,077 (the 77 paying tribute to Alf Barbagallo who famously campaigned the #77).
Kyle Francis was out of the show at the very beginning with major mechanical issues while Myles Bolger crashed hard in the B Main, heavily damaging the W13.
