(SPEEDWAY 1)

EDINBURGH stunned Eastbourne by pulling off their first-ever win at Arlington in the Championship on Saturday.
The Monarchs triumphed 46-44 having raced into an early lead and then held off the Eagles – with the home side frustrated by Kyle Newman’s mechanical failure on the third lap of Heat 15.
Sam Masters (13) and Josh Pickering (12+1) led the way for the visitors with Richard Lawson piling up 16 for the Eagles and Newman adding 10+2.
Edinburgh boss John Campbell said: “Of course we got lucky at the end when Newman packed up, but we deserved to win for sure – Richie (Worrall) had an engine failure before Heat 13 and that put him right off as well.
“Everything was positive about the whole show apart from Sam lifting going down the back straight in Heat 15 after making the gate!
“The team has developed really quickly, they have great team spirit, and if we thought Eastbourne were one of the strongest teams in the league then for sure we are one of the strongest teams in the league. We can only get better.”
Eastbourne manager Trevor Geer said: “I was so disappointed for the team but more so for Kyle. He put his heart and soul into that race, and he was so up for it.
“He had been riding well all night and he had a brilliant line in that race. He was cruelly robbed there.
“We were having to come from behind for the whole meeting. We should have pulled it off in that last heat as we did with Poole, but it was not to be.”
 
(SPEEDWAY 2)

REDCAR skipper Charles Wright scored a paid maximum in the Bears’ impressive 48-42 win at Berwick on Saturday.
Wright collected 14+1 from five rides and was backed up by Jake Allen (12+1) and reserve Jordan Jenkins (10+2) as the Bears took three league points from Shielfield Park.
Reserve Leon Flint (10+3) was once again the Bandits’ star, but none of their top-order were able to find consistent winning form.
Berwick boss Gary Flint said: “Tonight was simply one of those nights and we already knew this would be a tough match – it proved to be just that, especially as points were not coming easily from areas of our side where you’d expect bigger totals. “Their Jordan Jenkins had two very impressive wins, but on a night where a lot went wrong, the result just joined in to give us another kick.”

(SPEEDWAY 3)

LEICESTER are through to the KO Cup semi-finals after a 50-40 win over Scunthorpe for a 24-point aggregate victory.
The Lions were never threatened overall although the Scorpions gave a spirited display in the second leg despite the loss of No.1 Josh Auty who was detained in hospital with neck pains after a crash with Dan Thompson in Heat 11.
Ryan Douglas led the hosts’ scoring with 13 and captain Kyle Howarth added 10+1, whilst Tero Aarnio collected 11 and Thomas Jorgensen 9+1 for the visitors.
Leicester boss Stewart Dickson said: “We’d done the hard work in the first leg really. We ended up 50-40 here – but for me that’s not as convincing as what it should have been.
“We’re not firing on all cylinders, I think everybody can see that, but I’ll let the dust settle on tonight and see where we go tomorrow.”
Scunthorpe manager Dave Peet said: “When I got to him (Auty), you could only see his helmet, because he was that far under the fence, so it took a good few minutes to get him out from under there.
“The good thing is he could move everything, and he was talking. He wasn’t fully compos mentis – he was feeling dizzy. He’ll have the night in hospital, and we’ll take it from there – but I think he’ll be okay.
“At one stage I thought it was going to be a cricket score, but our lads stayed on it and after the break, the track started to come to us.”

GLASGOW take their unbeaten Championship record to Redcar in a clash of two of the early-season in-form sides today (Sunday).
The Tigers defeated the Bears at Ashfield on Friday but the Teessiders hit back with victory on the road at Berwick on Saturday.
The Bears again use rider-replacement for Jordan Stewart, whilst Leon Flint guests for the injured Jack Smith for Glasgow.
Tigers boss Cami Brown said: “We go with a plan to attack and see if we can get the points. Why not? We’re riding so well, we’ve got the team to do it, and the boys are in a really good frame of mind.
“We’re full of confidence but more importantly we’ve got a bond together which is building.”

(SPEEDWAY 5)

THE second round of the British Youth Championship at 500cc and 250cc levels takes place at Redcar today (Sunday).
In the 500 class, Round 1 winner Ben Trigger will be hoping to claim another series win especially as pre-season favourite Sam McGurk will be missing having fractured his femur at Mildenhall last weekend.
Trigger’s main threats are set to come from Redcar asset Alex Goldsbrough, Max Perry and Vinnie Foord.
The 250cc class looks set to be the most competitive class for 2021, with all the riders from Round 1 taking part plus the inclusion of the highly rated William Cairns.

MILDENHALL have moved to sign Luke Muff as a replacement for Arran Butcher who was recently injured in a grasstrack meeting.
Muff impressed in a guest appearance for Newcastle last weekend and will now make his debut for the Fen Tigers when they open their NDL campaign at Leicester on Wednesday.
Manager Malcolm Vasey said: “In our conversations Luke has shown he is hungry for success and very keen to succeed in the sport.
“He made a round trip of some 370 miles to a private practice at the club today (Saturday) and showed up very well and quickly fitted in with the other lads.
“We did our homework on him and spoke to two respected riders who had seen him in action and liked what they saw. He is a likeable and very enthusiastic rider who I am sure supporters will take to, and we are pleased to welcome him to the club.”
