EASTERN CREEK SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES PROPOSED 2021-2022 SEASON CALENDAR
THIRTY-ONE nights comprise the inaugural 2021-22 season proposed calendar at Sydney’s new Eastern Creek Speedway.
Speedway Promotions promoter John Kelly has spent the past few weeks putting together a season schedule that tentatively commences operation with a yet to be confirmed October 9 practice fixture, while the inaugural racing term concludes on June 18, 2022 with a Sponsors and Fan Appreciation Day.
Trial dates may also be scheduled prior to the countdown to the season opener on October 23.
“It’s all about giving people a show and putting on four or five categories each night to provide variety,” John Kelly said in relation to the season events.
Sprintcars will run to the two heat format which has proven popular over the years, with up to12 to 15 Sprintcar races per show.
“It will be a 5pm start to the meetings with around 30 to 40 events on any given night,” John added.
In addition to Sprintcars, there are also appearances set for Midgets, Wingless Sprints, Lightning Sprints, AMCAs, Legend Cars, Compact Speedcars, RSA Sedans, Late Model Sedans, Super Sedans, Formula 500s, Production Sedans, V8 Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks and Formula 500 Juniors during the season. Meanwhile a Vintage presentation also will be incorporated into the Sponsors and Fan Appreciation Day which will officially bring down the curtain on the first season at the new facility.
A highlight of the Sprintcar calendar will be the return of World Series Sprintcars on January 3, while the WSS Sydney Royale will be a two night show (January 14 and 15), with January 16 the rain date. The major Sprintcar events at the high time of the season kick off with two huge nights – December 28 and December 30 respectively, with hopefully COVID restrictions lifting by then to allow international drivers to enter the country.
The New South Wales Sprintcar Championship also will be held over two nights (April 23 and 24), and the Eastern Creek Speedway Sprintcar Track Championship will comprise of 14 rounds as part of their overall total of 19 appearances concluding with the June 11 season finale. Sprintcars make their season debut at the October 23 first meeting.
Midgets are set for 12 dates commencing with the October 23 initial race meeting.
Midgets will have two international fixtures, with back to back nights of Test match racing in the Australia versus New Zealand series, (April 23 and 24), while one of the traditional, long running Midget events on the Sydney speedway calendar, the annual 50 lap race, is listed for May 14.
The high time of the season starts with a traditional Boxing Night (December 26) super show and Eastern Creek Speedway’s first-ever season has scheduled a block buster with a Monster Truck Spectacular. The Jet Car will also perform with its own repertoire of novelty acts and the night will conclude with a fireworks display. (A December 27 rain date has also been pencilled into the calendar.)
The proposed calendar also features 13 dates for Wingless Sprints starting, October 23, while the Wingless NSW title will be run on May 28. Late Models also will appear regularly throughout the season with 11 dates in the proposed schedule of events with their first show set for October 30.
Lightning Sprints’ major race of the season will be the NSW Championship listed for May 21.
NOTE: All dates and events are subject to COVID restrictions, venue completion and change without notice.
