(SPEEDWAY 1)

PREMIERSHIP leaders Wolverhampton were held to a 45-45 draw by battling King’s Lynn at the Adrian Flux Arena.
Wolves are now six points clear at the top but have raced two more matches than second placed Peterborough – whilst the result also confirmed Belle Vue’s place in the play-offs.
Leon Flint and Sam Masters won the last two races for the visitors, which both ended 3-3 after home duo Thomas Jorgensen (12) and Richard Lawson (10+2) had levelled the match with a 5-1 in Heat 13.
Ryan Douglas racked up 13 points at reserve for Wolves, but Nick Morris suffered concussion in a Heat 10 crash.
Douglas said: “It is always a worry when a meeting can turn at any moment and when we lost Nick to injury it was a bit of a blow, he is pretty good around King’s Lynn.
“Me and Leon had to step up and we managed to get some extra points. A draw is not the end of the world, but we would have liked to win.”
Jorgensen said: “We are gutted to draw, for sure, but they have a strong side. We felt we could have put it away, but it was always going to be difficult.”
“We changed a few things early on to try to get it back to how we normally have it because I have been struggling in the UK lately.
“We are trying to sort things out but I think we are getting dialled back in like we were so we should be alright for the next meeting.”

(SPEEDWAY 2)

SHEFFIELD are on the verge of play-off qualification after their biggest win of the season against Ipswich.
The Tigers were in a determined mood from the get-go and set about avenging back-to-back home defeats with a lightning start – opening up an eight-point lead inside five heats and pulling clear to win 52-38.
And the result means they require a maximum of five more points to confirm a top four finish, with six matches still remaining.
Jack Holder top-scored for the Tigers with 10+2 whilst reserve Stefan Nielsen impressed on 9+3. The Witches’ scoring was dominated by Danny King (13) and guest Chris Harris (12).
Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “We were desperate for that. It was a really dominant team display.
“For one reason or another we’ve never really had all the boys firing together on one night and I’ve always felt we were solid in every department which has finally made a difference.
“We spoke about the importance of this fixture before the meeting and if we carry on riding like that then we’ll be a force to be reckoned with.”
Ipswich manager Ritchie Hawkins said: “It was another big defeat on the road but tonight, unlike other meetings where at least we have been in it for the first half of the meeting, we really weren’t in it at all.
“Danny was gating well and was gone, Bomber did more of his work from the back and provided the entertainment and they were our resilience.
“Jason (Crump) rode really well to get his heat win but overall, as a team it was nowhere near good enough.”

IPSWICH have announced Craig Cook is to take a break from racing in order to focus on his mental health.
The former British Champion missed the Witches’ trip to Sheffield on Thursday with Chris Harris standing in as a guest.
Co-promoter Chris Louis said: “Craig is currently struggling with his mental health that has plagued his career and he needs to take some time out.
“Craig’s return to racing will be reviewed by the SCB and we fully understand his situation, wish him all the very best and hope to have him back in the team soon.”
