JOHNNY ANDERSSON SHIELD
The Johnny Andersson Classic for Formula 500s will be held next season at the Perth Motorplex on the first night of the Australian Sprintcar Championship, February 11, 2022.
The second edition of what will now be an annual event pays tribute to the wonderful career of WA Formula 500 star Johnny Andersson
Organisers are already into the planning stages of the event and are hoping to attract a strong field from close and far to race for honours in the Johnny Andersson Classic and to lift the perpetual shield in victory lane.
A Johnny Andersson Classic Facebook page has been set up and we ask you to share the page to get the word out there as far and wide as possible.
Organisers are keen to attract some interstate drivers. For more information email: ando_90@bigpond.com
Back in the ‘seventies Johnny Andersson’s name appeared regularly in the headlines.
He was something of a Formula 500 institution around WA – particular in the summer at Perth’s Claremont Speedway.
Andersson showed his true class across Australia when he captured three national titles – his first in 1974 at Claremont Speedway. The Carina Speedway in Bundaberg, Queensland was the venue in 1975 for his second trophy, while in 1977 it was in Murray Bridge where Johnny Andersson stood atop the dais.
