BIRMINGHAM co-promoter Laurence Rogers has expressed his relief that the takeover of the club has been agreed for them to continue in the Championship next season.
A new consortium fronted by local businessman Nigel Tolley are to take charge at Perry Barr, with Tolley and Rogers as co-promoters, after outgoing owners David and Peter Mason elected to step down.

Rogers said: “I have literally been working on this for months and I believe we have a perfect solution in the consortium now in charge of the club.
“We did, at various stages, think it wouldn’t happen but the hard work and commitment of the group has seen us succeed.

“They all know there is a lot of work to be done but all four are ready for this and we aim to do a lot of promotional and marketing work in a variety of ways to get the club advertised and bring new fans in.
“One of the first big jobs, though, is to completely relay the track. I have a big motorway blade coming in to take the track back to its base and then iron out any holes etc, then we will be laying all-new shale and letting it bed in before the season starts.”

KYLE Howarth has secured a return to Leicester for the 2022 Championship season.
Howarth is set to remain as club captain and news of his signing means the Lions have just one place remaining in their line-up.

He said: “I’m well pleased to be going back to Leicester because I enjoyed it there last season.
“I like everything about the club and it was a no-brainer for me when the chance was there for me to go back in 2022.
“We’re looking like a good team again, Richie Worrall is a great signing and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.
“We had a pretty good season in ‘21, so I’m hoping we can build on that and improve that little bit more and win something next year.”

NEWCASTLE will open the 2022 season on Sunday April 3 by hosting a Stoke Potters Guest Select side in memory of former promoter Dave Tattum.
And Diamonds promoter Rob Grant, a former Stoke rider, will make one final appearance on a bike as the Potters’ No.7 – with the visitors to be managed by their former boss Nigel Crabtree and Tattum’s son Lloyd.

Grant said: “Without Dave’s assistance last season, Newcastle may well have finished the season very differently.
“The inspiration and determination that Dave had for this club was second to none and I can’t think of a better season opener than to celebrate the life of the man who almost certainly stopped Newcastle closing.

“This is something I want to do for Dave, and it will be the last time I put a leg over a bike.
“Practice and training will start in January in order to make me fit enough to carry out the laps needed to fulfil my programmed rides as I intend to go out and help put on a good show.”
