NSW PREMIER AND COMPETITORS GIVE EASTERN CREEK SPEEDWAY THE GREEN LIGHT

Sydney and NSW competitors have given the new Eastern Creek Speedway their vote of approval after closed practice sessions, commencing on Saturday night, December 18.

Drivers relished just getting back on a track in Sydney and – a brand new world rated venue at that!

All drivers loved the opportunity to undergo track testing on the superb clay oval and some rapid laps were run.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has described the new Eastern Creek Speedway as a world class sporting venue as construction work continues around the clock. 

“We’ve consulted with motorsport experts from around the world to bring this project to life and we have used the latest in track safety design and spectator experience to ensure it is a thrilling addition to our racing scene,” Mr Perrottet said.While still deemed a construction site, public are not permitted but it’s not too far off when that will change as the countdown looms to the opening night January 14.

It’s a state of the art stadium that will not only take Sydney speedway into the future but feature national and international stars.

This was the plan outlined by co-promoters John and Kathy Kelly, Scott and Leonie Anderson when at a specially convened media day, Friday December 17, the track was handed over to the speedway promotional consortium by the state government as construction work enters its final stage.

NSW Minister for Sport Natalie Ward inspected the magnificent new speedway complex and even took a two seat-sprintcar ride to sample track action first hand.

“It’s terrific to add another jewel in Sydney’s sporting crown,” the Minister said.

“We’re getting ready to start our engines with the racetrack and pit area now in the home straight for completion and work is continuing to build the general admission and corporate areas.

Member for local Mulgoa area Tanya Davies said the new speedway will allow locals to attend high quality racing events at their doorstep.

“This new speedway will ensure locals will have access to the very best sprint races, V8s and many more events right here in western Sydney,” Mrs Davies stated.

“The track, sanctioned by Speedway Australia, has a five star rating that will be a world class facility for spectators and competitors,” Kathy Kelly said.

Midget Champion Troy Jenkins, 50, was one of the quickest in a shakedown run during the Friday media day. “I wish I was 20 years younger,” Jenkins quipped after he cut some fast laps on the banked 460 metre pole line clay oval.”

The racing season at Eastern Creek Speedway will commence with the Grand Final of the Queensland/New South Wales Sprintcar States Series. The opening January 14 meeting will also feature the appearance of highly ranked American Sprintcar driver Carson Macedo from Lemoore, California. He contested 77 races on this season’s US national title schedule and recorded 11 main event victories, while he was placed in the top ten feature race finishing results an incredible 61 times. He is ranked number three in the American Championship 2021 standings. Tickets for opening night are available at easterncreekspeedway.com.au
